Over the past 2 days, I've interview three anonymous people about skin preferences, and what skins they like to wear. This is what they said.
Do you make skins? And if so, are they popular/do they get alot of downloads on the site?
Person 1: I used to, but I've gotten bored of it, mainly because it takes alot of effort to make a skin, shade it, upload it, etc. And at the end of the day, I never used to get many downloads. Occasionally a few 20/30, but that was about it :P
Person 2: Nope, when I first got Minecraft, it took me like an hour to find out how to upload skin. It's been two years, and I think I've changed my skin once, for like an event or something. So I'm not fussy about skins.
Person 3: YES! Skinning is fun, and cool! It's the best thing to do in Minecraft, even if it's not in-game.
What types of skins do you wear?
Person 1: I really like random skins, even if I can't be bothered to make one, there's still a great community for skins, especially on PMC. I'm starting to see contests made by the users, and skin battles, which really made me happy to see some new skins in the future.
Person 2: I guess ones that aren't Steve, but not super-shadey-epic-monstrosity-type skins. I hate teen skins though, can't stand it when a person called "minecraftplayer32491" with a creeper hoodie skin walks in on the server I'm admin on, and is the most total noob there can be.
Person 3: Um, idk. All types like pvp ones, robots, pigmen are really funny and cute. But I can't stand default skins. I like seeing people with new skins everyday and even if it's just for a short time, it's still nice.
Did you make the skin you are wearing? Or did you find it somewhere on the web?
Person 1: I probably could make a skin that I'd like... for a few days, but I'm normally happy with one I find off the internet, because I'm not too specific when looking for skins.
Person 2: Um, I think I found it on NovaSkin or some other weird skin website, and I edited it for like an hour and probably ruined what was a good skin. So, yes and no, yes and no.
Person 3: Right now I'm wearing one of the other Dwarf skins, that Honeydew made popular. The black bearded one :D I get alot of people saying "yogscast noob" but I didn't even need to watch the Yogscast to like the skin.
What is the funniest skin you've ever seen?
Person 1: I once saw a skin of a cartoon character, and half of it, on the back of the skin was a pedo bear skin. Still makes me laugh seeing good ol' pedo bear.
Person 2: You had to be there, but I was on a survival server, and this guy got kicked for having a nude skin, so he came back with like 20 of his friends from some other server, all of them with nude skinsand had a go at the admin.
Person 3: I don't think I've ever seen one! Lol, I guess I'm just never on PMC at the right time to see the ones that make people laugh D: Maybe one day...
How do you feel about the whole xBox360 skin thing?
Person 1: I play xBox Minecraft with my little sister alot of the time when I'm home from work, and she's obsessed with collecting the skins, so I buy them for her. I don't think I'm in the right place to criticize it, but it is kind of weird how the xBox skins get transparency and taller hats etc. and we're stuck with boring models. And I had to pay for the xBox skins, so who really wins in this situation -_-
Person 2:I've seen some of the images and honestly, it's made me want to buy an xBox, or wait until it comes out on PS3/PS4 and buy it then. You haven't nerdgasm'd until you've seen the Walking Dead ones in skin pack 5.
Person 3: I don't have much money to spend on the xBox skin packs, so I got the free trials instead. I really want the skeleton one on both xBox and PC because of the actual rib bones it has and stuff. Mojang please make this happen! xD
Final question, what would you like to see in the skinning community in the future? Contests, tournaments, programs, anything, etc.
Person 1: I'd really like to see a skin shop where people don't beg for skins that have probably already been made. First google the skin on at least PMC or Skindex, and then you can beg for it on the forums. But in all seriousness, I like your skinning video you put up, and more people should be doing that. I bet the under level 10's are really confused when they see the shaded skins, it's like we're taunting them. We should be teaching them. So I think you're doing a good job with that.
Person 2: More exciting contest themes. They had a Nether project contest, and a Cave project contest, so why not Nether skins, and Cave skins? But not much to add, besides maybe less skin theft. I just utterly despise the rat b**tards who think it's okay to take someone's efforted work and turn it into theirs in a minute.
Person 3: More contests for skins. I've never even participated because I'm always missing them, but the next time a skin contest is released, I'm probably gonna make one.
