Hai everypony, welcome to my latest blog! So recently, I've noticed people saying I'm "lucky" for certain things. I don't remember who said them but here are some scenarios (I love scenarios :3):- I'm in chat, and Nefashu says hi to me. Nefa and I are quite good friends I think (am I right? x3) so it isn't really surprising for him to say hi to me. But someone said to me: "You're so lucky! A mod said hi to you! Mods never say hi to me :/"
- I'm in chat again (I'm in chat a lot :3) and someone says to me: "Congrats on 200 subs! You're so lucky!"
So that's the scenarios. Now, what's wrong with this, is that it's not luck in either of them. Luck is when something just happens, luck is coincidental. These scenarios are not coincidences. I earnt Nefa as a friend. I earnt 200 subs. I didn't just happen to get 200 subs; 200 people didn't just randomly happen to subscribe to me, I earnt them. Nefa didn't just happen to say hi to me, I earnt his friendship. Mods are just normal people, not special or anything (I love you really mods please don't hurt me :3). But the point is that if you are friends with someone, they'll say hi to you!
So here's an example. Since lots of people have been promoted, I'll use this as an example: OliverFrenchie was recently made site mod. Now, is this luck or hard work? It's hard work. He didn't just happen to become mod. He was chosen because they thought he'd make good mod. If you work hard to become mod, then you might get it; if you break the rules frequently, you won't.
But if suddenly a pony walked into my house with no warning at all, that could be luck, unless I had done something special to earn that... Here's a better example of luck. A £100 note flew into your bedroom window. This would be luck. This would be unplanned. You never thought a £100 note would fly into your window, it just came out of the blue. This would be luck.
So now for some boring definitions.
- Luck, chance, unluckiness, fortune - Something that happens to happen. Something totally out of the blue, a coincidence. Something unplanned.
- Planned, earned, worked for - Something you worked for. Something you earnt, something you hoped, wanted or knew would happen.
So yeah. This blog wasn't really as long as I hoped xD But yeah, what I wanted to get across is the difference between chance and worked for (I don't really know the word... yeah :3) Thanks for reading and also thanks for getting my "100 things people say in the chatroom" on the pop reel c: I'll be adding more probably tonight ;3
