Hello there. I am Steve Grylls, an expert survivalist that has beaten the Enderdragon....on Hardcore. Today I am here to teach you about some handy and possibly life saving techniques for survival and hardcore game modes. I will start by talking about what you should do to get food at the start of the game. Even if you spawn in a desert.

In order to effectively get food at the start of the game you must follow the steps I am about to tell you.

1. Depending on where you spawn, you must get to a biome that passive mobs naturally spawn in. Passive mobs commonly spawn in mountains, forests of any kind, and plains biomes. If you spawn in a desert, walk in one direction until you reach one of those biomes. If you run into an ocean, don't cross it. Walk along the coastline until you reach the good biome.

2. Get a wooden sword. Once you get a wooden sword, you are most likely already in a biome where passive mobs spawn, hunt for cattle or pigs or even chickens (although raw chicken meat has a chance to poison you). Once you get a good supply of meat, the sun will be setting (unless you are lucky enough to spawn in a forest biome).

3. If you don't have time to build a shelter, don't build a shelter. Make a dirt tower that is 5-10 blocks tall. If you stand on top of it, most hostile mobs won't notice you (unless you stupidly have a staring contest with an Enderman). Then wait out the night. If you move around during the night time, then you are very likely to attract the attention of hostile mobs and if you get a couple skeletons on your tail, it won't end well.

4. The night lasted 7 minutes but you were patient. The skeletons and zombies are burning alive and the creepers are despawning. Usually it takes 5-7 minutes for all of them except the spiders to despawn. Collect the drops from the burnt mobs, zombie flesh is a cheap way to heal wolves, bones can be used to tame wolves (very helpful allies) and speed up farm production. On top of this Skeletons will drop arrows and even bows occasionally. Bows are the arguably the best weapons in the game. After collecting the valuable drops, get wood and dirt. If you find a cliff, make your home in there.

5. You will have about 3-5 minutes to build your home before night time. The most efficient starting home is 5x5x3 blocks. If you are near a cliff then you can make a home very easily without that much wood, and you get cobblestone and possibly coal. Place your bed so that it is not touching any walls, and light the area with 1 or 2 torches. Put you crafting table in the wall to maximize space. Build a door or seal off your entrance using blocks, on hardcore zombies can break through wooden doors so its better to use dirt blocks to seal it off.

6. Time to mine, get at least 32 torches (requires 8 coal and 8 sticks) and make a staircase until you reach level 12 (on F3 the y coordinate should say 12 at your feet level). Bring as many cobblestone picks as you can and collect all the iron and coal you can. After getting enough iron to make a sword and a full set of iron armor, you will safely be able to walk around at night. It take 4 hits with an iron sword to kill most hostile mobs, 3 hits to kill a spider.

7. Start a farm, use your bones to make bone meal. Then get seeds from tall grass. Use a hoe to till the dirt, must be near water and a bright light source, and place the seeds in the tilled land. Then right click with the bonemeal and you have an insta farm. Stocking up on bread allows you to explore more and mine deeper.

8. By this time you are not in immediate danger from anything. Do whatever you want but always be careful and value any resource, because if tough times happen you need to be able to rebound (escpecially if you are on a PvP / Survival server where you could get robbed).

Hope this helps! Feel free to diamond, favorite, comment or subscribe :D.
