Marlene

I open my eyes to the new day. Marlene, my wife, shifts beside me as I edge out of bed. I try not to disturb her but she starts getting up anyway. It strikes me how beautiful she is. Her golden-brown hair ripples in gentle curls down to her waist, her amber eyes are so exotic that they draw me closer every time I look into them. I flick my arm around her waist and lean in for a quick peck on her cheek before I start my day at the mine.

I drink a flask of coffee as I trudge down the cobblestone path. Other people join me on my daily commute. Upon arriving at the mine, I line up to take the mine cart down. Maybe today will be my lucky day and I will find some diamonds, glittering diamonds calling out my name, begging me to find them. Snapping out of my blue haze, I check the sign.
-Section 3A-
Perfect. Section 3A is one of my favourites because it has a tunnel straight to the exit closest to my house. Smiling and waving my pickaxe jovially to my co-workers, I set off down to my appointed area.

A slightly crumbled arch informs me I have reached my destination so I grab a bottle of water and an empty bucket from the chest by the door. It shuts with an eerie creak. Someone should really get down here and oil those hinges... Oh well. Today, I feel adventurous; I take a different path than usual. A right there, a left here until I am in a part of the mine I have never seen in all my 15 years of work here. Taking a wild swing, I begin to strip mine, a technique so familiar to me now. I become so engrossed in my work that I don't even feel the heat in the air rising. Sweat pools on my back and in every crevice of my forehead. My hands are slick and it becomes hard to grasp my pickaxe. I wipe my hands on my thighs, a habit Marlene really hates, and continue to dig. With a hiss, light envelopes me. A dull orange glow fills my tunnel and I know this must be it. Seriously, lava is the way I die!? Ugh, such a rookie mistake. I feel my belongings being plucked from my body and the last thing I see is a pile of my items being engulfed by the red hot killer.

I drop to the ground, dazed and with a strong feeling of déjà vu, which is weird because I can’t remember anything at all. I examine my surroundings; I am in a small clearing dotted with tall grass and assorted wild flowers. A friendly sounding grunt startles me, as I turn around, I see a pig. I DO remember something! I know that animal is a pig. I realise I know other things too. I could tell you all the types of trees and ores, what kind of biome I’m in and all the types of flowers but I can’t figure out how I came to know all of this. I punch a tree in frustration and physically jump back in surprise when a perfectly square piece of wood comes out with a POP! I pick it up and place it somewhere else. The wood merges with the ground in such a way that to move it, I have to punch my way through again. This world is so strange.

After more than a few hours, I have built myself, what I see as a quaint little house. I walk inside, admiring my handiwork. Something seems off though, I can only craft a single bed. I feel sure I used to share with someone. In an attempt to feel more at home in my newly-built house, I put up a few paintings. The last one I make is of a beautifully exotic woman with golden-brown hair to her waist and enrapturing amber eyes. Marlene. I flinch at this recollection. Do I know this woman? Do I know that name? Do I know anyone?

Months have passed since I entered this strange place, I still haven’t figured out where I am or how got here. But the matter doesn’t plague me like it used to. I enjoy this new world, animals respond to my touch and empty terrain waits for me to sculpt it. Frankly, I don't care if this is Heaven, Purgatory or even Hell because here, I am a god.

There are some words that don't go in place and it's a bit 'meh'. It's not a bad story though.

I don't know what to say apart from good luck and of course that the 'homepage' is a random thing gathering the other Pop-Reels/Galleries. Also getting Pop-reel in the blogging section is... really really easy...

Anywho. it was an okay read, although the name Marlene seems weird but eh. It's fine.

Well, I did describe her as exotic so why not a weird name. Thanks for the feedback, I'll try and add more fitting words next time. :)
