Me Criticizing Minecraft

Now, I know people like Minecraft for some reasons, and I know people dislike Minecraft for the same reasons and then some, but I have my reasons to like/dislike it...

Reasons I like Minecraft:

One reason I like Minecraft is just the simple fact it's original. I know that may sound a little cliché, but it's really one reason I like it... It may not be COMPLETELY original, I mean, it may have some ideas from other games, building games, in particular, but ideas from others like Legos and Roblox.

Another reason I like Minecraft is it's almost completely open source. That might sound confusing to most people but basically what I mean is, you can easily modify the game to your liking. Want to create new textures for your entertainment? Just open the files of the game, export the textures you want to be different, recompile them in a file, and put them in your texture packs folder. Then voila, you have some new textures! If you want to mod it in general, you can do that, it just takes a little bit of time but it's pretty easy when you finally do it, and you can even do something like Build Craft or Industrial Craft!

And the final reason I like Minecraft is (well, that I'll put on here) the fact that you can have a small shack built out of wood that is a 3*3*3 block surrounding yourself, or you can build a palace, or if you're like me, you could build a simple design of an engine! You can use full creativity, anything less is okay, you can have someone build your house and you defend it, or you can farm, and of course there's the fact that you can do pixel art out of wool (irrelevant but I've built myself a chicken out of wool).

Reasons I dislike Minecraft:

I don't like some of the choices that Mojang has made with Minecraft's design, such as the enemies, the Creepers I'm okay with but they still get on my nerves, especially when they just hang around outside your door staring at you when the creators claim that only zombies and skeleton can see through glass and anything else transparent. But the main annoyances to me are the Endermen. If you look at them they just teleport to you over and over hitting you, teleporting away, coming back, hitting you again, leaving, and repeating, of course, you NEVER get a chance to fight back because projectiles are useless, and they hit you if you're too close... The only way to avoid them is by wearing a pumpkin on your head, which strange enough, is rarer than diamonds!

Another thing, the pumpkins are rarer than diamonds. PUMPKINS! RARER! THAN! DIAMONDS! People have figured this out and I personally don't think that should be... Enough said.

Last thing (that I will criticise for now), the game used to be very well optimised... I can load up say version 1.5.2 and raise the graphics to max and it runs fine, even with a 256*256 texture pack. However, whenever I load up a newer version, put the graphics on the lowest settings, get a low-resolution texture pack like an 8*8 pack, it lags every other second... I haven't quite pinpointed the problem but I think Mojang has intentionally made the game slower... And it's not my computer because as I said before, I can load up an old version and it runs fine. I can even run high-end games decently, medium graphics but you know, still, passable for a fast computer...

Hey, thanks for reading my review on Minecraft! I know it may have been pretty lame and not very good, but I don't really know how to properly criticise a game, I just choose stuff I find cool, and stuff I find really boring and poorly done, and talk about those...

About performance, games get more demanding over time (all games do). So the newer the game, the more it needs. I agree that Minecraft isn't really the most optimized game, but it has never been.

I also highly doubt that they intentionally made the game slower...

Okay maybe I was wrong about it, but really, the game is slower on my PC than GTA V is... And that is an amazement to me because that has a higher minimum ram required than my computer even has.

Minecraft is indeed notorious for running bad on some PC's that should be able to run them easily, although I haven't experienced it myself. However, it seems like Mojang is trying to up the performance quite a lot for 1.9 (some of the snapshots ran surprisingly well :D).

I've noticed, and honestly I was rather happy to see they're working on the performance a little.
