Introduction
Making military skins is very simple once you get used to it. The only problems you might have are designing the helmet and camo. If you want something simple, try making a military skin without camo. (Examples could be US Special Forces, SAS, etc.) Anyway, theres a whole lot of variety when it comes to making military skins, so have fun!

The Combat Vest
The combat vest is issued to most military forces, so you'd probably want to put one on the skin. When it comes to the vest, there's lots to choose from. It's pretty simple, except for deciding where to place pockets. You have limited space, so I reccomend not making the pockets too big unless you are making a machine gunner. (They need big pockets.) If the skin does have large pockets, you can extend the pockets to the side. It'll look just fine. There are also several accessories you can add to the vest. Examples could be scissors, flares, a handgun, magazines,
etc.

Headwear
Another frequently used thing issued to most soldiers. Now, this is optional, so if you want, skip this section. Headwear used by the military includes, caps, headphones, scarves, helmets, etc. If you're a beginner, I'd go with the cap and headphones combination. Making helmets can be complicated. Scarves are also easy to make, so those I'd reccomend that for beginners too. Just so you know, if you're making certain helmets, you can make it round using the technique used on the skin on the
thumbnail.

Camo
There are several various camos you can use on your skin. For example, tri-color, digital (Very common on US soldiers.), etc. Once again, this is optional. The key to making camo is marking size. I'd classify the camo's markings into 3-4 classifications depending on size and color, find out the base color, and then simply draw. Camo will usually have large or small sizes depending on color. For example, desert tri-color has a base color of "olive green", medium-sized light brown spots, and small brown spots.

Final Notes
+ For a realistic military skin, I'd stay away from the "Rambo" look.
+ Digital camo is usually easiest, but will usually have some really small markings.
+ Camos with rounder markings will commonly have larger markings.
+ Urban camo looks best in digital.
+ It is possible to put weapons on the skin.
