Dripstone Caves are another new cave biome that was announced at Minecraft Live 2020 and will be added in the 2021 Minecraft 1.17 Cave and Cliffs update! Mojang have not told us how we find Dripstone Caves but they have told us that they mainly consist of Stalactites / Stalagmites (also known as Dripstones).

Stalactites an be found on the ceilings of Dripstone Caves, water particles drip from Stalactites. Stalactities will fall and break apart on the ground when destroyed. They Can be used as a renewable water source, if players place a cauldrons underneath them.

Stalagmites can be found on the floors of Dripstone Caves and they harm players and mobs if they fall on them

There is a third variant of Dripstone that was not announced at Minecraft Live 2020. It is made of the same material as Stalactites and Stalagmites but it is a grey block.

A stalactite: from the Greek stalasso meaning "to drip” or "that which drips” - is a type of formation that hangs from the ceiling of caves, hot springs, or manmade structures such as bridges and mines.

A stalagmite: from the Greek stalagmias meaning “dropping or trickling” - is a type of rock formation that rises from the floor of a cave due to the accumulation of material deposited on the floor from ceiling drippings.
