For the final interview it's Sphax! You'll know him from his popular texture pack of the same name, so let's get to it!

1. When did you first start playing Minecraft, and why?

I remember that like it was yesterday ...
One day (a normal one like many others) a colleague (a fan of indie-games and open-source projects) told me of a game quite strange. He described this game as an indie game which can be played in multiplayer and in which you are in a world of cubes that could be destroyed, moved or even transformed to other things like pickaxes, ingots, etc... I was immediately captivated by the idea of a game where the player could evolve and interact at will as if he were totally free (like a second reality). In fact, I had already imagined and tried several times to develop a game where the player could evolve freely. I tried lot of combinations (platform game, 3D isometric game, top view, ...) without much success.
So, I searched on web where I can download and install it... To be honest, when I see that the game was sold at 15o ¬, I searched how to crack it. I found the version beta1.2 on P2P and tried it.
My first impression was "How my god... it's ugly"... Then after some seconds I found it quite exciting thanks to its cool gameplay. Some day after, I invited all my Geeky friends to join me and to play in a LAN (as if we were all students again :p). After 1 hour of trying to connect in multiplayer without success, we all bought the game (beta 1.7.3 version) and finally played it in multiplayer. That was very exciting and funny and we passed the night (however, my girlfriend didn't like this night at all this :D).

2. When and why did you get into texture packs? Because the game was seen by all my friends as a very ugly one, I decided to search on the web how to make it better. I found my first texturepack: the gerudoku one. However I didn't like all the textures, so I begun to mix it with other texturepacks... and to distribute it to my friends.
After some weeks, I decided (innocently) to share my "creation" which was a simple "remixpack". However, I didn't ask for permission to the original authors (I didn't remember who they were and I didn't know that the Minecraft community was so huge - and cool). :) As you can imagine, I took a good spanking (well deserved) by the whole community but also by the original authors of the texturepacks I used (mainly Doku and JohnSmith).
So, I immediately deleted my work and decided to create my own in my own style. Then, the very first version of the PureBDcraft texturepack is born in June 2011. You can read all the changelog on the dedicated website (http://bdcraft.net/changelog-purebdcraft).
And guys, please, don't share "remixpacks" at all: Try creating your own! That's better for the community and the Minecraft players. ;)

3. Why do you like making texture packs?
Because my daily job is not an artistic one at all... So creating textures and drawing mobs is something very relaxing for me. I don't think this could become my full time job but I confess that I sometimes dream about that. I know that's a dream but it's a very nice one...
Of course, I also love to see that my work is appreciated and used by millions of players. ;)

4. Which individual texture of yours (block, item, mob, etc.) is your favorite and why?
My top3 is the following:
- My pig : because when I see it, I can't stop myself from laughing... He looks so sad and stupid at the same times, as if he knew he will be transformed to porkchops...
- My fish : as the pig, he looks at the player as if he knew he will be grilled... :p
- My wood (wood log) : because it is simple but quite nice to look at.

5. Do you prefer high rez to 16x16 rez?
Difficult question...
Infact, I can't really answer: I can't say whether or not I like a pack in function of its resolution... But I can say if I like or not a texturepack in terms of its beauty/quality. But frankly, tastes and colors appear differently in different people...
For example, I don't like at all the "photorealism" texturepacks because I think Minecraft can't fit to this style... However I like good pixelart as well as good hand painted textures. A texturepack must have a "style" and fit to it from the beginning to the end.

6. If you had to choose your favorite texture pack made by someone else, which pack would it be and why?
I like the work of Doku, LordTribolite, Ozo and Johnsmith. They are awesome artists. However, none of their texturepack are fully finished... It's sad for players because they can't really play Minecraft with an unfinished TP.

7. Do you make skins as well as texture packs?
Not really because Minecraft skins must be in low resolution... I already done Zombie and Hero skins for players who like and play with PureBDcraft. You can found them on my PlanetMinecraft profile (http://www.planetminecraft.com/member/sphax/).

8. Why do you think your texture pack has been so successful? (It's ok to brag about your mad skills.)
Probably because lot of people think like me: as a player I needed a texturepack without visible ugly pixels (a "smooth" one) but without being realistic... a texturepack with a Comic/Cartoon style which fit the Minecraft experience... one with the "French touch" (joke) and foremost, one which is complete to play Minecraft without missing textures.
PureBDcraft is all of that and is done with love. :)

I saiy that I love my followers because, I always try to do more for them. For example, recently, I become a partner of "CreeperHost.net". Thanks to them, everybody can download my texturepacks (and all my files soon) at full speed and with less ads (because I don't use anymore Mediafire). Those guys at CreeperHost do a very nice job for those who like to create their own Minecraft server. Well.

9. Why did you join the Minecraft forums and Planet Minecraft?
At the beginning, I joined MinecraftForum to post and download Mods. Then, I shared my work on it.
I joined PlanetMinecraft because someone had stolen my work to post it under his name...

10. What do you do when you play Minecraft?
I explore the world, build some wood hut, kill pigs, slay Creepers, try redstone and pistons mecanisms without success and dream about the next update... I would love to see something very new in Minecraft. Something huge.
I was a bit disappointed when Minecraft 1.0 was officially available... Nothing awesome has been announced. However I trust Jeb and I think Mojang will do some very nice updates in the coming months.
For example, I think the official API will bring something very awesome to the Minecraft community like a Minecraft store with Mods and texturepacks easily "installable" and "uninstallable". :)

11. Anything else? (This is the last question)
Yes, I would like to thank all those who love PureBDcraft so much that they donate some bucks. Thanks to them, I opened the official website (http://bdcraft.net)! And of course, thank you to all PureBDcraft fans but also to the players who use my little Minecraft Mods. :p
Ho, and I should not forget to thank my darling who has the patience to let me work on Minecraft and listen to me talk about Minecraft ... when she does not play Minecraft. :p
And if you want awesome news about PureBDcraft and my Minecraft work in general, you can follow me on Twitter (@Sphax84) and contact me on BDcraft forums (http://bdcraft.net/forum). ;)

And finally, I have a new idea of a very new texturepack... I hope to have enough time to begin it (but it's not as soon as I would like).
