Most people who have considered making a Minecraft Server, or have dreamed of having their own, have not relized the fact that Minecraft Servers require more than they think. About 2 months after I found out about servers (which was at least 2 and a half years ago), I considered making my own big server. I started researching on port forwarding, how to edit the server.properties, how to install plugins, all that stuff. And then, after months of research and testing, I finally got it to work. And as soon as I got the server to work, I edited the "max players" setting in the server.properties to 100, and edited the ram usage to two gigabytes.(by the way, I have an old mac mini with only two gigabytes of ram. Also, I was a new-guy to computers and technology, and I was young then.) I ran the server, and my computer crashed. I tried running it again, and it crashed. I reseached more about minecraft servers, and found out that I could not run a server with enough slots so that a fairly large amount of people could join! And the reasons that I could not run one because I did not have enough ram, my processor wasn't powerful enough, and I did not have a big enough and fast enough drive! And I now know, that it requires better equipment to run a decent minecraft server. Nowadays, I run a private 10 player server for me and my friends to play on. And if you want to run a decent 50-200 slot minecraft server, here are some requirements to meet(by the way, it took me months and months of computer hardware research to know exaclty what you need to run servers)
50-100 Slot Server Requirements:
CPU: Intel Core i5 or i7 Quad-Core (I highly recommend the i7) with 3.1ghz+
Ram: 16 (32 for better performance on 100 slot servers, but for 50 slot servers, it is still good to have extra ram) GB DDR3 with 1600MHz+
Drive: 128 GB Solid State Drive
GPU: N/A
150-200 Slot Server Requirements:
CPU: Intel Core i7 Quad-Core with 3.1 ghz+
Ram: 16 GB (32 highly recommended) GB DDR3 with 1600MHz+
Drive: 240 GB Solid State Drive
GPU: N/A
PS: If you want requirements for servers with slots beyond 200, just tell me in the comments section.
