PLEASE NOTE: THIS BLOG WAS MADE FOR NEWBIES TO MINECRAFT. IF YOU ALREADY KNOW HOW TO PLAY THE GAME, GOOD FOR YOU, BUT THERES PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO START. THANK YOU.
Introduction
The Minecraft world is HUGE. In the world, you WILL spawn absolutely anywhere. On a plain, in the forest, on a hill, in the snow, on the desert, in a swamp, on an island, in the water, near a cave, etc. You, being the newbie, your survival rate is 5% out of 100%. This blog will breakdown Minecraft piece by piece until you fully understand it. Okay? No man left behind!

Chapter One: Get to Know Your Surroundings
Here's some quick information- Stay near your spawn! It is SO important, trust me, I found out the hard way. Dying with diamond swords in the middle of no where isn't fun because chances are, you will never see your precious items again. So, before you go wandering off, let's stay into the spawn until I explain my methods for adventuring.

Plains
Plains are basically grass and maybe a few trees here and there. If you spawn on a plain, you might want to suggest making a house out of dirt until you can figure out where a forest is, or a hill, cave, etc. Now, to make a dirt house, I would suggest making it SMALL considering it is a temporary house. Your best bet might be 4x4 or even smaller. Now, if you choose to, (don't wander to far) but go and explore, see where some forests are and stuff. Make sure your dirt house is in site though so you don't get lost or you can run back to it quickly before sundown.

Forests
I am hoping you guys know what a forest looks like. Or if you live in a big city like New York, I might have to describe one. Trees. Trees EVERYWHERE. You are more likely to get lost in a forest then you are anywhere else. So let's say you spawn here. First thing- Make a wood house. Go on and cut down as many as those blocks as you can! Make your house however you want. Need it to be temporary? Make is 4x4. Stay near that house, okay? Wait until I explain some more info about nights, mobs, crafting, etc.

Hills & Mountains.
Pretty self-explainatary. A hill is either a slight, or huge elevation in dirt blocks. Mountain is the same, just dirt and stone. Now, if you spawn on either of these, you have a good survival chance. You see, mobs spawn near there spawn point which is in a cave, or somewhere in the dark like under a mountain. Not completely under it but on the side under a little hut that the mountain is providing with some of it's blocks. Not always, but the mobs might climb up if they see you. If your near a forest, I'd stay on the outskirts of it and chop down trees from there to make a house. If there is no forest, go ahead and make a dirt house.

Snowy Areas
Snowy areas have different grass blocks and tree blocks. The grasses I see look a little lighter then the others (or have snow on top of them) and the tree blocks (wooded part and leaves) are darker. The water is frozen over with thin sheets of ice. Now, be careful and don't be stupid, okay? Don't break one of the those ice sheets and dive into the water because it will refreeze over. You will drown and then re-spawn without any of your items. I would make either a house of dirt, or wood.

Deserts
Deserts are empty. Sand blocks, cactus, sandstone. Yep, that's pretty much it. Now, DO NOT make a house of sand. Sand falls, and it will crush you like a bug. Or a silver fish (HAHA). You have to mine sandstone, and you def. don't want to make a house out of cactus that will hurt you. So here's where I say, move out of the desert. Make markings in the sand of which way you traveled by simply breaking a block here and there so in case you die, you can get back. As soon as you see some dirt, go ahead and make your house out of dirt there.

Swamps
Swamps are new to Minecraft. There are vines hanging from the trees, and the water are almost murky looking. Don't worry, theres not an alligator mob. In swamps there are trees and dirt so you pick with one you want to make a house out off. I'm trying to make this simple enough for you.

Islands
Minecraft is made up of many islands. There's little islands, big islands, etc. Just all depends really. Let's say you start in the middle of the ocean on a small island. There's probably a few caves, and maybe a couple trees. Use that wood + the dirt blocks to make a TEMPORARY house. You will HAVE to go explore with a boat because you'll need some food and stone, etc. Big islands should have all of the spawn areas I just went over.

Water
You most likely won't start floating in the ocean in the middle of no where. If you do, I really don't know what you tell you except swim until you see shore. Then make a dirt house there, or just make a new world.

Caves
You will spawn NEAR caves. Not in them. I've never spawned in one, and I'm not really sure if you can. I would get away from the cave, because mobs (like creepers, zombies, slimes, skeletons) will be lurking around. And then see what spawn area your in and read one of the sections above.

Chapter Two: Crafting
I really don't know how to explain this. Here is an extremely good website that will show you step by step on how to make tools-
www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Crafting

Chapter Three: Your Friends
In Minecraft, your only other friends are the animals. No exceptions really.
Wolves
Wolves are creatures you CAN tame with a little love. That means food. They eat- bones & meat. I've never fed them anything else. It will take a lot of bones or meat to take them, but as soon as their tamed, they will defend you and follow you everywhere. They will most likely be found in forest areas. Most of the time, they come in a pack and if you hit one ONCE, their eyes will turn red and before you know it- the whole pack is chasing you, trying to kill you. Theres no stopping that.

Pigs
Pigs are adorable cross eyes pink creatures who squeal when hurt. They are good for: Making friends OR eating. Who doesn't love pork? You can eat their pork raw, or you can cook their pork on a stove. If you have a saddle, you can even ride them (NOTE: You can't control them)

Cows
Cows are brown and white spotted cross eyed creatures who, "MOO!" They are also good for eating, and you can also cook the steak they provide you with. The also give you- leather. You can make armor/shoes out of leather.
Chickens
Chickens are tiny creatures. Their quite adorable if I do say so myself. Again, you can eat what they give you- raw chicken. You can also cook it as well. They also might give you- feathers or eggs. You can throw their eggs (right click) and you might hatch another chicken.

Octopuses
They are G.R.O.S.S. looking. If they are killed, they will drop ink-sacks, which you can make black wool out off. They are only found in water areas.

Sheep
Who doesn't love fuzzy creatures that drop wool when killed? You can also shave them with shears to get more then one block of wool. *Quick note- You can also use shears on leaves to get the leaf blocks*

Chapter Four: Tough Love
Mobs can be the animals I just explained, extras, or enemies.

Creeper
Creepers are green, stalking figures with no arms that approach you and make a ticking noise. Hint: The ticking noise sounds like a bomb. They do explode and will either- damage you, or kill you. I really think they just want company and EXPLODE with joy when they see you! If killed (that means they don't suicide and you kill them) they will drop gunpowder which can be used to make TNT. They are not killed in sunlight.

Zombies
Who doesn't love a zombie movie? Well, if you haven't seen one, the Minecraft zombies are green and they moan. It's like me when I'm sick. They will attack you, but they move at a relatively slow pace, giving you the upper advantage. They drop feathers. They are killed in sunlight.

Skeletons
Skeletons are bony looking creatures. They shoot arrows, and will try their hardest to kill you. If killed, they drop bones and arrows. They are also killed in sunlight.
Enderman
The newest mob! They build, and attack you when you aren't looking. The ONLY way they see you, is if you look them in the eyes. If you do, don't turn away from them because they teleport around you and will easily kill you. They drop Enderpearls. With enderpearls, if you right click (which means throwing them) you will teleport to that spot! The only sad thing about it, is that you take damage to yourself when teleporting. They no longer die in sunlight.
Slimes
Slimes are SO much fun! But they hurt. I believe they are killed in water (I haven't found one in a while and I don't remember). When killed once, the slime (depending on the size of the original) will break into smaller and more slimes. This will continue until their very tiny.

Silverfish
Silverfish are also relatively new and hard to find. Well, with my luck they are hard to find. You find them in gravel. So be careful when breaking gravel because these little critters poison you. Poison hurts.

Spiders
One type of spider is a- Cavespider. These spiders are tinted blue and are poisonous. The black spider, is found outside caves or in dungeons. They can be rode at night by skeletons. They do not die in the morning.

Ghasts
Only found in the Nether. They spit fireballs and do not die in lava.

Pigman
Only found in the Nether. They attack when attacked. They carry around golden swords.

BlazesOnly found in the Nether. They spit 3 fireballs at a time. They catch fire before the can spit fire and have to cool down before they can shoot again.
Magma Cube
They are basically slimes that don't die in lava. They are a red-brown and behave like regular slimes.

Chapter Five: Exploring
Exploring. Expedition. There are two ways to explore: On foot, or by boat! I would always carry around the following with you if you are planning on exploring and never returning to your spawn:-Torches (A LOT... 64+)-Wood (At least 64 blocks)-Wood planks (At least 64 blocks)-Bed (At least 2)-Dirt (A LOT... 64+)-Food (A lot if your planning on not starving) I would bring raw and cooked meats-Chest (At least 1 or 2)-Compass (optional)-Map (optional)-Boat (If by water, have at least 4 in case one breaks) <----Those are the essentials. You will have to build a house by night to camp out. Just a temporary one. If you are planning on returning to your spawn when you are done exploring, then I would mark areas. Such as- Placing wool blocks, bringing a map or compass. If you choose a map, then make sure you memorize where on the map your spawn is. Your better bet is a compass because the compass will point to your spawn point. Just follow it. Now, if your traveling by water, you still need the same stuff except you'll need a boat. I would bring extra boats too, just incase you break one. How to break a boat: Hit a block to hard, or use the boat often without switching it out.READ 1st COMMENT TO CONTINUE THIS BLOG... IT'S TO BIG TO ADD ANYMORE.................

slimes dont automatically die in water, they just cant swim up, they can jump off the ground under water to give them the impression of swimming, also, i dont believe the chance of survival is only 5%, it really varies based on how you learned of the game and how much someone may have told you about it, other than that, awesome guide, gave you a diamond btw
