Time portals
Made from time portal frames (crafting: 8 obsidian around a dragon egg --> 12 time portal frames). Time portal frames can be placed like an end portal and activated with TNT (or something else) to make a time portal.

When creating a new world, the player can also choose which time period they want to spawn in as a start (modern, medieval, sci-fi or future, etc.)
When hopping into the portal, it will either warp you to a random time period or open up a GUI for you to select which time period you want to go to. Going into a new time period will result in a new "dimension" to be generated in the same world or save file, just like the nether or end. Since there may be too many time periods for Minecraft to handle, the information regarding the world generation, mobs, etc. of these time periods could be stored online on minecraft.net or another website. This will also prevent cracked clients from experiencing the true awesomeness of Minecraft.
Unlike a Nether portal, the time portal won't be found when one warps to another time period, so one would have to make another one to get back to the "minecraft time period" or other time period. There should be obsidian in every time period and a boss (like the enderdragon) that drops a unique boss item that can be only obtained once (like the dragon egg). The crafting recipe would still be the same, except the dragon egg is replaced by another boss item. Ender chests would still function the same way in these new time periods, but Nether portals and other things may not work in some time periods.
The new time period would have unique world generation, and possibly automatic texture pack changing to suit the time period (e.g. DokuCraft for a medieval time period, SciFi texture pack for a future time period, etc.); world generation in a new time period could include NPC towns and cities, different biomes, etc.
Being in different time periods could be advantageous; new items, mobs, blocks, etc. could be found in a different time period and be "brought back" to another time period. This way, the player could get good equipment from one time period and use it to their advantage in another. For example, the player could warp to the "sci-fi time period" and kill an alien that drops alien goo to bring back to the "minecraft time period" for their own gain, though certain items may not work in some time periods (e.g. compasses).
NPCs in NPC cities or towns could have dialogue (in the default language the player set) and some sort of self-protection. There could also be consequences for killing NPCs, hurting them, stealing, and vandalizing. You could also "blend in" as a citizen and live a life in one of their cities or towns. Being a citizen could yield new items and scenarios that wouldn't be found in Minecraft.
There could also be two new commands: "/warp _____" and "/freeze _____".
You could do /warp to instantly go to a certain time period. /warp 1.4.5 or other version could also be implemented; this way, older players who preferred minecraft in the old days could "relive" minecraft alpha or beta (without keeping and moving a bunch of jar files around), with their respective features (no hunger, etc.). This may bring back a lot of minecraft fans who quit!
Typing /freeze and then "time", "other", "all", or "all other" could lead to different things being "frozen"; "/freeze" would stop only a / the player (useful on servers), "/freeze time" would only stop the sun or moon from moving, "/freeze other" would only stop mobs from moving, "/freeze all" would stop everything from moving, including yourself, and "/freeze all other" would stop everything except yourself from moving. This command could stop entities from despawning, mobs from moving, the time of day from progressing, etc.
Having time periods implemented in Minecraft would greatly benefit almost everyone playing the game. It adds new objectives for players who have tons of diamonds, defeated the enderdragon, crafted a beacon, etc. It also adds to the fun people already have on servers, though the server may not handle multiple time periods at the same time.
It would cause the experienced players to be caught off guard when exploring new time periods and make the game more fun. Players could have a metric ton more things to do in Minecraft, get more creative, and even help them learn things about the different time periods, like what kind of things were found in the medieval time period.
Having just one new time period would likely more than double the fun and everyone's time spent on minecraft in all aspects: reading on the wiki, watching Minecraft LPs, playing in general, etc. How much more time would people spend and fun they would have if ten time periods were added?
Overall, time portals would add a whole new bundle of things and give everyone almost unlimited things to do, in the magnificent and wonderful world of Minecraft.
Derp if the entry seemed like an essay :P
Thanks for reading! I hope this gets into the finals :)

This is not a bad idea but i think that you might have taken the idea of age, time, and time travel from someone who has posted about being in the past. Other than that i think its not to bad of a idea. I hope you continue to work hard!
