So let me get straight to the point. Mini-modding. It's a topic that is always raised in chat one way or another, be it in support or not of these members. There have been several blogs done before on the issue, although none (as far as I'm aware) from a mod's point of view. (This blog in no way represents the overall mods view on mini-mods, just my own personal views on the matter).
The line that distinguishes regular, helpful users from Mini-mods seems to be quite blurred. Hopefully this blog will make that line more clear (Or it may make it more blurred, who knows?). So anyway, what most users see a mini-mod as is a user that tries too much to be like a moderator in chat. This means all sorts of things, reprimanding rule-breakers mostly. Although really, is that mini-modding? Sure, if there is, say, 5 active mods in chat, then maybe so, but what if theres only 1 mod in chat. and they are AFK? It all seems to depend on whoever is in chat, some lynch members for certain things, some don't. What about the helpful members? Here's what I see to be as a helpful member as a moderator. Someone who will whisper to me if they know that i'm AFK and somebody is rule breaking and there are no other mods about. Someone who will come in from another room and tell me if someone is breaking any rules their. Even with the new promotions, there are often times when I find myself in chat alone, and trying to moderate multiple chat rooms, plus the forums, and trying to get a bit of free-time aswell, well, it is quite hard. But then some people take it over the edge, they'll tell people off for the littlest things, even go so far as to issue warnings to members. Well thats not on, especially when theres an active mod in the room. It's their job to keep the peace in chat, not yours. Once you've alerted a mod to the problem, your input stops their, don't go to far, because then you end up just as bad.
Now some people seem to think that Mini-modding is a great way to become moderator. It's not. If you wanna find out how to become a mod, look at any one of the hundreds of blogs on it out there, don't sit in chat and moan at the rule breakers continually, have fun, its what chat is about.
Anyway, that's me done for this week, i'll probably update my castle project (Which can be found underneath this blog) at some point during the week.

Great blog :3
Much like you pointed out, the definition of mini-modding changes depending on your situation. If I'm in chat, there's one AFK mod and all hell is breaking loose, then reminding others of the rules and spamming the mod's skypes with "ZOMG GET IN DERE" is the usual thing. But if there's 3+ active mods in the chat? There's no point even trying, by the time you have "server hall" typed up, the mods have removed the IP spam and moved on.
However, when there are active mods in the lounge, trying to enforce the rules makes you look like a fool. Especially when people just say "server hall" after an advertisement. There are already people there who can take care of it, so such comments are superfluous. It also doesn't help anything, since server advertisers are mostly either bots or people who don't know what the server hall even is, and they aren't going to figure it out from a snappy two word response.
Spot-on blog, by the way. :)
