I've always felt that golems were rather useless in minecraft. Iron golems would protect villages from zombies and such, but they could never help you. I think that golems could be a great addition to the game as a companion. The easiest way to do this would be simply devoting the golems to whoever created them, but that's up for ideas. Along with companionship, I believe that there is a huge potential for new types of golems.
Fire Golem
This golem is up to interpretation. It could go on the offensive and hurl fireballs at your foes. It could also go on the defensive and provide a minor shield of fire or a fire resistance buffer.
Ice Golem
This golem would be more fitted towards an assistive position. It would be spawned with a block of ice, a block of snow, and a pumpkin in that order. It could provide ice bridges over bodies of water or could freeze enemies for a short amount of time. It could also provide a respiration buffer for swimming underwater.
Ender Golem
This would likely be a more costly golem to create. It would be created with two ender stone and the dragon egg in that order. It could teleport you at a limited distance. It could also provide a shield of slowness to help protect the owner.
FOOD Golem
This golem would be created with a stalk of sugarcane, a melon, and a pumpkin stacked in that order. It could provide a hunger replenishment buffer and possibly farm crops with an AoE. Still not exactly sure the purpose of this golem.
Ore Golem
This golem, like the ice golem, would be shifted towards assisting the owner in mining and dungeon finding. It would be created by stacking a diamond block, 3 gold blocks, and a pumpkin in that order with the gold forming a 'T' shape with the diamond. It could somehow notify the owner if an ore of some sort is near or if a dungeon or cave is near. It could also provide a haste or fortune buffer.
There's a lot that this could enable. I do realize people have had this idea and have made mods for this before, but I think that it would fit with the game's sandbox survival nature as a vanilla addition. I might post images of what I would think the golems would look like later.
Thanks, alskoj

Have something to say?
They are fairly useless, however.
