new update available?

ok i got a new mod (1.8 commands single player) so i test it out and after i sign in, it says new update available. so i think its 1.9 thing so i say agreed. All my mods were deleted and everything, and i'm not so sure that the new update is even legit, cause everything is the same whats up with minecraft. So i have a question what does 1.9 have so i can compare and is this normal. Oh and the start up didn't say anything about this
