Phantom Upgrade ( part 3 ) Seliel The Phantom Ninja and Misako

Please Note: The following fanfic was written before the events of season 15 (Seabound). If anything happens in the show afterwards that contradicts this story, it should just be accepted as an alternate universe.

Seliel continued her daily routine and headed to Borg Tower. While walking towards her office, she noticed something off. Her office door was open. She knew for a fact that she not only closed the door but also locked it behind her. Seliel brought out the sword from her back and approached with caution. Using her sword, she pushed the door slightly ready to attack at a moment's notice. The door opened and there was nothing. A sigh of relief came over Seliel.
“I was wondering when you would show up. I guess Pixal was right, you do have a routine.” Cole said from behind her.
“What are you doing here? Did you do this?” Seliel questioned, pointing at the open door. “Yeah, Pixal has keys to everywhere. I wanted to see what you were up to. My guess is you always take everything with you since I didn’t find much.” Cole replied.
“I should have known. Another reason to keep my work with me.”
“That’s actually what I wanted to see you about. Pixal is getting quite annoyed with how you’re acting around her and she just wants to put these matters to rest.”
“I didn’t come here to chat Cole; I came here to work. So as much as I would like to please the droid. It’s not on my to-do list.”
“Fine. I’ll be here all day if you ever wanted to come chat. Pixal wanted me and Zane’s help with some renovation going on in Cyrus’s office.”
“Okay, bye!”

Cole left towards Cyrus’s office. Then, Seliel opened her bag. Organized her blueprints and went to continue her research on the computer. That’s when she noticed something. Her flash drive was gone, all her list of tech she used or planned on using. Gone! “Cole!” She growled. Seliel headed up to Cyrus’s office with anger and speed in every step.
“Cole, give it back!” Seliel shouted upon arrival.
“Figured this was important. Plus, I also knew there was no other way I could get you up here.” Cole said with a smirk on his face.

Seliel did a glance around the room and noticed Zane and the droid were sitting at a table with two free spots.
“Great.” She whispered to herself. Knowing she didn’t have much of a choice she sat down at the table, with Cole to her left, Zane to her right, and the droid right across from her.
“What can we do to make you trust Pixal?” Cole asked.
“How do you make someone trust you?” Seliel questioned in response.
“Look instead of wasting my time, just give me the flash drive and leave me alone.” She continued.
“I want to settle this, how about we meet up after you're done here, say 3:00 pm? So that way we’re not interrupting you. Does that work for you Seliel?” Cole asked.
“Fine, after I’m done.” Seliel said.

Cole gave the flash drive back and left Seliel alone for the rest of the day. Seliel didn’t understand why Cole was so demanding on being nice toward the droid.

When 3:00 pm came, she packed her things, this time taking her flash drive with her, and headed to the front of Borg Tower. To no surprise, she was greeted by Cole, Zane, and the droid.
“Glad you could make it! Come on Seliel, we wanted to show you around Ninjago City.” Cole exclaimed.
“You didn’t give me much of a choice.” Seliel whispered in an annoyed tone.
“Our first destination is the Ninjago City Museum of History since it’s the location that closes first.” Pixal said.

The group headed towards the museum, Seliel and the droid kept to themselves while Cole and Zane were having a conversation with each other. Seliel didn’t bother to listen in on their conversation, instead, her attention was on the droid. Once they arrived Cole was the first to speak:
“Alright, me and Zane will head our separate ways. You know how to get ahold of either of us if you need anything. Have fun you two!”
“Wait what!” Seliel exclaimed.
“It’s not working, if me and Zane are here so we’ll leave you two alone. Just walk around. I’m sure you’ll find something to talk about.”

As Cole and Zane headed towards the artifact section, Seliel turned to the droid in frustration and asked:
“Did you know about this?”
The droid's face said it all. With its eyes wide, still staring in the direction where Zane and Cole had walked off too.
“Look, why don’t we both just go up to Zane and Cole and say this isn’t going to work.” Seliel said.
“I don’t believe that will get us anywhere. Perhaps we should just entertain them. What do you say?” The droid asked.
“Fine, where too?”
“I would like to check the section on the Elemental Alliance if that is alright with you?”
“Elemental Alliance? As in elemental masters? Like with powers?”
“Correct thought specifically the elemental masters that were around during the time of the Serpentine War.”

Upon arrival, the two looked around. The section was full of things you would expect in a museum. Artifacts, weapons, and pictures. What captured Seliel’s attention was a huge painting. Depicting what she assumed was the Elemental Alliance on the left and the Serpentine on the right. Both sides appeared ready for battle. She only recognized two faces, Wu and Garmadon. Others reminded her of people she knew.
“Did all of them have powers?” Seliel asked.
“Most of them, not all.” The droid replied.
“It’s like history depicts people without powers as unimportant, replaceable, or villains.”
“Perhaps, but maybe it’s just because they weren’t in the spotlight. There is at least one non-elemental master who has become well known.”
“Who?”
“I don’t know if she’s here, but I believe she had to pick up a few things. Follow me.”

The two left the Elemental Alliance section and headed towards the archaeology section. The droid walked up to a door and knocked. An older woman opened the door.
“Good evening Misako, if you don’t mind, I have someone who would like to ask you a few questions.” The droid said.
“Of course, Pixal. What questions do you have miss…” Misako said.
“Seliel.” Seliel added.
“What questions do you have miss Seliel?”
“It’s just about the serpentine war. What role did you play? If you don’t mind me asking.”
“Of course. Come inside, have a seat. It’s quite a tail.”

The two sat in chairs separated by a desk from where Misako sat. Once everyone was seated Misako continued.
“You see I was a part of the civil resistance, while the elemental masters were fighting in the war. I helped make sure the towns were protected from minor attacks. Though I wasn’t the strongest fighter I still knew enough thanks to Wu and Garmadon.”
“How close were you to Garmadon and Wu?” Seliel asked.

Misako just stared in confusion while the droid tilted its head back.
“Seliel, this is Lloyd’s mother and Garmadon’s wife.” The droid said annoyed.
“Oh my gosh. I’m so sorry I didn’t know.” Seliel said sheepishly.
“It’s quite alright.” Misako said, with a comforting smile.
“Does it bother you that you never got recognized for the help you provided during the Serpentine War? I didn’t see your name mentioned in the Elemental Alliance at all.” Seliel mentioned.
“Why would it? People are attracted to superpowers more than regular people. Not to mention, I did get recognized but in a more meaningful way. The elemental masters themselves saw me as their equal, and never treated me differently because I was powerless. Just like the ninja. They don’t treat anyone differently because they don’t have powers. If you try to protect the innocent, they consider you a protector just like them. “Misako explained.
“I guess I never thought of that. Thank you for your time Misako.”
“Anytime, I’m normally here or at the monastery of spinjitzu if you have any more questions. Though you may want to get heading, the museum will be closing in a few minutes.”

Seliel exited the office. Just as Pixal was about to follow Misako whispered to her.
“Talk to her about being a protector without powers and what you do to prove your worth. It seems like she may feel overshadowed by people with powers. Maybe providing her a different perspective will allow a common bond.”

Pixal nodded in response and followed Seliel to the front of the museum.

Pixal and Seliel returned to the exit to find Cole and Zane waiting for them.
“So how was it?” Cole asked.
“Alright, thanks for telling Misako was Lloyd’s mother. I looked like an idiot in front of them.” Seliel replied.
“Oh, you ran into Mrs.G. I guess I forgot to mention that, for some reason, I thought you ran into the other day. Oh well my mistake”

Seliel just rolled her eyes as the four of them exited the building.
“Where to next?” Seliel asked.
“Next on our destinations list is Mega Monster Amusement Park!” Cole replied.
“Really?”
“What?”
“Never mind, let’s go.”

Upon arrival, Seliel observed all the different attractions and contemplated which one she wanted to ride first.
“Okay, I figured we start small and end big. What do you guys think?” Cole asked.
“It would be better if we just focused on the ones we want to do since the park closes at 8:00 PM.” Zane commented.
“Fair enough. In that case, what would you guys like to ride?”
“I would like to ride the Ferris wheel. Yet I would prefer to do it last, if possible. I like the view from up top at night.” Pixal replied.
“I just want the big roller coaster, whatever it’s called.” Seliel added.
“You sure you don’t want to ride Ghost Train, phantom ninja?” Cole asked sarcastically.
“Not funny Cole.” Seliel replied, annoyed.
“Alright. Anyways most rides here are two per seat and I think you know what I’m gonna say next.” Cole said.
“Of course, come on ride buddy let’s go!” Seliel said motioning at Pixal to follow her.

Luckily for Seliel most of the rides didn’t have much wait time since they weren’t busy or the cars carried a lot of people, so the line moved quickly. Not to mention, since the rides moved at a fast paste she didn’t have to speak to the droid. The one exception being the last ride of the night, the Ferris wheel. The two of them sat on opposite sides of the cart, while Seliel just avoided eye contact to prevent a conversation.
“I find it quite beautiful when the lights of the city are seen in the distance. It just looks peaceful to me. Even though in the day, it feels like a mayhem city.” Pixal said.

Seliel just stared towards the city. Refusing to acknowledge Pixal. Then Pixal continued.
“I can’t imagine what it’s like protecting your town. I have at least the six ninjas helping me not to mention the other elemental masters if circumstances are dyer.”
“My town isn’t as bad as Ninjago City. The most I deal with are low-level thugs, people pretending to be an elemental master, or…” Seliel said, stopping mid-sentence.
“Or droids.”
“Yeah.”
“You tend to mention elemental masters a lot. May I ask why?”

Seliel thought for a few seconds about what she was going to say. Then decided she should tell the truth.
“I just wish I could have powers sometimes. I know you pointed out I was persistent on using tech but if I don’t what else do I have? Training? Like that will help against a fire snake or giant stone creature. I’m a skilled fighter and average scientist but it still doesn’t compare to powers. I couldn’t even stop the droids on my own. I had to count on the ninja, people with powers to help.”
“You feel overshadowed or helpless?” Pixal asked.
“I guess. No matter how hard I try, in the end, I can’t be someone I’m not.”
“I suppose I understand.”
“Yeah, but you have a supercomputer for a brain.”

Pixal stared out at the city in the distance in silence, while she thought about her answer. She knew if she said anything wrong it could cause a disaster, so she thought and eventually came up with a response.
“I can see what Borg Industries has for something to help with that. Though I need you to research something as well.”
“What?” Seliel asked.
“I need you to find padding for your helmet. So, that way no technology is close to touching your skull. “
“I think I can do that.”

The Ferris wheel ended and the two met up with Zane and Cole. Then all four of them proceeded to exit the park.
“So, how did it go?” Cole asked.
“I believe we have made some progress.” Pixal replied.
“Yeah, some. The droid is going to help me with my suit.” Seliel added.
“Would you like us to accompany you?” Zane asked.
“I think we're good. It didn’t throw me off the Ferris wheel so I can trust it a little. Seliel replied.

Pixal proceeded to roll her eyes in playful annoyance. Then Seliel returned to her hotel as the others returned to the monastery for the night.

Fun fact: When asked if Misako fought in the Serpentine War, Tommy Andreasen said "[โ€‹she] may have been involved in some civil resistance, but the EMs were in charge." As a result, I took advantage of that and decided to implement it into the story.
