As a former staff member, from being a Moderator, Admin, or even the server Owner that I am now, there is one thing that new members constantly do that never fails to make me the most annoyed that I have been all day. New players joining your server and immediately typing "Can I staff" or "Can I be Mod" or "Can I be Admin", sometimes with spelling errors, or even gramatical mistakes, is one of the most unbearable things that I can seem to read in MineCraft's chat bar. I cannot stand the way that some players expect that just because they joined, they should be a member of the staff. They are not entitled to anything, yet they make it seem as if they deserve to be a member of the staff. It disturbs me even more that some of them actually expect to "acheive" the rank.
On every server that i have been a staff member on, I played for hours upon hours, making myself comfortable with the players and staff before I even applied, thinking that I even had a chance at being accepted. On my first server, I applied 10 times over the course of a year, and watched 12 Moderators be picked before me before finally acheiving the rank of TrialMod, to get cut from it shortly after. This was in 1.8 beta. Even after each rejection, I kept playing and kept applying until i finally did get the rank, and yes, I was focuse on staff member, but i wanted to play the game more than get a rank. My problem with most of the current players is that they will leave as soon as they are rejected, or you dont read their app, or you say they dont get to apply. I've seen a player quit my server because I took away his TrialMod rank!
One thing that every new and upcoming server needs is dedicated players, and they just keep getting harder to obtain because most of the players that I receive after posting on a forum, bumping on the PMC list, or other forms of getting the IP out, all they do is ask for a rank, and leave as soon as they dont get it. There has to be some common sense where they realize, "hmmm, I probably wont get staff member if I only play 5 minutes to see if i can get it" but it seems as if many of them dont even have that.
Also, this may be a bit off topic, but I also feel that getting dedicated players on a smaller server are harder to obtain. First of all, players are lesslikely to stay in a smaller community, with less action on a server. Also, not specifically on PMC, but on other listing sites, all the big servers drown out the small ones with huge amounts of votes, players, and the scores are through te roof, therefore not providing small servers with the players they need in order to grow. The reason that the small servers get all the staff beggar is because they know they can't get it on the larger ones, so they try their luck with us.
I;ve seen planety of servers with problems like this that have escalated in to something truly ugly, the spamming of chat of the requests that they beleive are entitled to getting a rank overflows the chat.
I know that this rant of sorts may sound a tad bit harsh, but if a player is going to join to only ask for staff, they must think the Owner is some sort of a gibbon. The thought of even considering to make one of the 'staff beggars' a moderator is somewhat apalling to me.

I wish my server was that active though lol
I knew someone who did this, the owner was stupid enough to promote him and after, he became the biggest jerk i know (And is second on my list of MC jerks)
And i know people actully want to help but they don't make it so blatently obvious thay want OP/Staff.
Once they are a higher rank alot of players think they are not allowed to pvp
My question is :
Why do they think that
