Recently, browsing through the forums here on PlanetMinecraft, I have noticed a number of people submitting art and projects to get feedback on. This is how a community like this works, posting projects and then hearing what others say about them and then improving on the faults. However, I am starting to see a change on how this is actually working.

I am beginning to see signs of very harsh comments being made towards others and their creations. I am not talking about constructive criticism, I mean I am actually seeing people swear at others saying that their project is a 'waste of time' and that they should 'stop' their creativity immediately. This is just not acceptable.

People enjoy posting their creations and hearing back from others. If the feedback is positive, then great. However, if someones art is not entirely the best you have seen on PMC, and that you know you can do better yourself, don't go 'hating' on them. If you have something bad to say, say it nicely.

For example, instead of saying it like:

"Dude this sucks I can do way better you are wasting your time with this art, just stop there are so many people better than you god your art makes me sick"

Instead, say something like:

"Hey bro good try! Maybe try to improve your drawing method and use a thiner brush next time? Have a look at some of my art if you want if you want some tips. But nice try, keep practicing and I am sure you will keep improving!"

See, how hard was that? This can easily change someones attitude towards their art and how they treat others. If they see comments of people telling them to stop, there is a chance that they will, and maybe never draw or build again. However, seeing the constructive criticism helps them to see what they are doing wrong and politely gives them hints on what they need to improve. And who knows, one day with practise they may become the top of their category.

If you are the creator or artist in this situation, you should also respond in the correct way.

If someone gives you the hate messages, just ignore them. By replying to them, you are giving the poster what they want: competition. By simply ignoring them, the hater has nothing to go against and so chances are they will not post again.

However, if someone gives you constructive criticism, thank them, and take on board what they have said. These kinds of people are not there to put you down, they are trying to help you improve. So, take on what they say, maybe even talk to them a bit more about what you can do, but don't hate them. They are the guys that will help you get better and improve your creativity.

So there we have it. Rant over. Please remember what I have said here when commenting on other peoples' projects. Don't hate them even if you know they are bad, give them constructive criticism and help them improve.

Thank you for reading,

-George from AyreTV

Great blog, but the sad part is that sometimes people just don't change.

Thing is, you shouldn't ignore the hate. You need to look at it, and think about it. For instance, say I post a skin and someone comments.

"Dude this f_cking sucks big d_ck, learn 2 shade noob"

Well I could just ignore it, or I think to myself "Well, this is only one guy, but he says he doesn't like my shading. Maybe I should have a look at my shading, see if I can improve it". By not being affected by the hate, which is something other people have trouble doing sometimes, I can still take it in as constructive criticism, despite the comment's author not having wanted to help me.

As long as you imagine that the guy who posts "fag" as a comment is probably 370lbs and living with his mother, you shouldn't worry about what he thinks.
