This ongoing series starts with an eleven-year-old trainer named Red, who lives in Pallet Town. Red wants to be the very best trainer he can be, but to do that, he has to talk to the legendary professor Oak. Red goes to Oak's lab and rings the doorbell, but no one answers, so he goes inside the lab to check it out. Inside are hundreds of pokeballs, each with different Pokémon inside. Suddenly, Oak appears and yells at Red for trespassing. Red bumps into a button and every pokeball opens...! Red and professor Oak search for hours and find all of the Pokémon, except for one: Bulbasaur. Red sees the Bulbasaur and follows it into the Viridian City gym. He goes up to return it to its pokeball, but a wild Machoke appears. Red and Bulbasaur work together to defeat the Machoke using the Bulbasaur's solarbeam the Professor notices Red's love for Pokémon and gives him the Bulbasaur.
