Planet Minecraft is, for all intensive purposes, a wonderful site. It provides people with a one-stop-shop for most of their minecraft-related needs. Take, for instance, the blogs. There our many, many blogs on this website. Some are minecraft-related, while others are not, and each category has its fair share of good blogs. However, these blogs seem to be getting rarer and rarer as ridiculously short, completely idiotic, absolutely horrible blogs appear.

These blogs often serve no other purpose than to take up space in the hopes of leveling the author up. Their body is made up of five sentences at most, and each one has horrific grammar. The "subject", if you could call it that, is only there to attempt to mask the author's want for xp. To make matters worse, their last sentence is usually along the lines of "like & subscribe!!1!lol1!" What the eff is this?! Seriously guys, leave that crap on YouTube. It doesn't need to be here and nobody wants to see it.

TL;DR: Short, self-promoting blogs that are only there to give the author xp are useless and idiotic. They don't help anyone, and in most cases make people mad.

This is just my personal opinion. What do you think?

I completely agree with you, I haven't posted a blog though, but if i do it will be something useful, not "GET RID OF ENDERMAHN HEH ZUS SO BAD!" But all my other creations I put time into like my skins. Eventually i may make a texture pack, but with the flood of simple packs, it is pretty far off. But the only place i know of that has not been attacked by Bad grammar and low quality Level-Grinders, is probably The tutorial section of Blogs. But this seems to be on the verge of falling victim to Level Grinders

Have you noticed those who post those blogs that "serve no purpose other than to take up space" don't even get into the popular slot? If they do, they are either dismissed quickly or trolled hard by others (which also leads to its steadfast dismissal).

On top of that, grammar shouldn't even matter half of the time. If the person has a point to make, and can't in a supposed "better" way, so be it. It's part of their freedom to be able to post freely, as this is the point of a community.

Finally, self-promoting blogs have their uses! It's in a similar fashion to commercials on TV or ads on the internet. If they never advertised, they'd never get attention. This is the thing that really irritates me about blogs like these: it seems to me that the message they always put out is "Don't let these *stupid* people post, only the *smart* people can". If we had it that way, this wouldn't be much of a free-blog posting community.

I do realize that they don't get into the popular slots. However, the popular slots aren't the only things that people look at. The recent posts page is also frequented by many users. If those blogs with no purpose are posted, they push the good blogs farther and farther down, and the pages farther along don't get as many visits. This can cause quite a lot of good blogs to go unseen. While there are a lot of no-purpose blogs that are reported, there are also others that slip through the cracks. Keep that in mind.

If you read some of the comments, you would realize that while I find bad grammar annoying, it doesn't matter if the blog has a good purpose. However there is no reason not to put capitals and punctuation, nor is there any reason to unnecessarily overuse them.

Yes, I do agree that self-promoting blogs have their uses. If what you are promoting had time and effort put into it, then self-promotion is fine. Promoting creations that didn't have time and effort put into them, however, is simply wrong, and it shouldn't be done.

As for what you thought this rant was about, I'm sorry that you feel that way. I didn't intend to spread that message, and I'm deeply sorry that it gave it off.

Interestingly enough, a while back I read an article about how modern technology is destroying the human thought process; As alarmist as that article was, it brought up interesting factors such as the degrading of grammar in youth and shortening of attention spans. As unfortunate as it is, people only see intelligence through well-practiced grammar and formality, as opposed to other possible factors of intelligence. Well, enough of that...I just thought I'd share that bit of info with you.

It's a largley debated topic about "useless" blogs that slap down "good" blogs, but it also brings up an interesting thought. For some odd reason, humanity favors looking at the bad. If theres two lists, one of expected conducts and one of poor, looked down upon conducts, the majority of those who see these two lists will read the bad list first and keep in mind what NOT to do more than what is expected. Going back to the blogs, if they contain "Rant" such as this blog, people get curious at the furiosity being spoken. This is a reason why "good" blogs get slapped down, aswell. It may not deter the views of the "good" blog wholly, but it will slow them down (I'm not calling this a bad blog).

oh, agreed 100% Becca... so please, PLEASE! If you see 'em, report those blogs so I can delete them! I get so frustrated going through the blogs every day to find them myself that I just... don't... look any more. ;)

i agree with the fact that blogs that are only to "level up" are stupid, but what else do you consider stupid? i'm a bit confused.

Things about certain blogs that I consider stupid?

Well, as you said, existing only for the purpose of leveling the author up is stupid. Then we have blogs that were posted for a purpose (though it's usually a ridiculous one), but there was no effort put into them and they're as bad the blogs that exist to level the author up.

Blogs with bad grammar annoy me, but if they have an actual purpose, then I'll let that little detail slip.

It depends on whether or not they are coherent and give reasons.
