Dang, how are people still finding this blog? Meh, whatever. I'll update it for the occasional 1 in a few million :P Oh yeah, and inb4 TLDR, inb4 TL:DR inb4 TL;DR, inb4 tldr, inb4 tl:dr, inb4 tl;dr, inb4 tl-dr.. you get the picture.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I read a blog that was titled "what do you wish was in minecraft?" So, I decided to answer this (RE n00b face). After a bit, unfortunately, I was coming up with idea after idea. I didn't want to make a large comment on this guys blog, so I instead decided to comment with a link to this blog. This blog is a response, so be sure to check out the original blog :D (link) Also, I am aware that I may repeat some of my features in this blog. If I do, then just ignore it, because it is a whole lot of features that I am thinking about at different times. :P Here's the link the this blog: (link)
Note: features that may be added in upcoming updates have captions highlighted in either (red) or (blue). Features that you can find in mods will have (green) captions next to them that explain the mod that you can use for them. Plugin options for certain features are highlighted with (purple)
Total features thought of to this date: 109
  • Flying mobs like birds,
  • some more music (such as music for different biomes that transitions when you enter another biome), smoother biome transitions (i.e. not a sudden little peninsula that belongs to taiga - maybe we could have a biome type that is a percentage of taiga, and the one with the more percentage is the one that plays that music. If 50%, then the first biome name in alphabetical order gets the music), more music (i.e. biome music, more discs), maybe even a music disc that you could put your own music into when you access the files.
  • thruster pistons (like the pistons mod),
  • more customizable textures (i.e. being able to change the tooltips for the illegal blocks such as the redstone block, the wool:16, etc.),
  • more mob eggs, more mobs, maybe some mob eggs that you can get for just entities, such as minecart types, ender crystals, fire, and other stuff.
  • possibly a (complex, physics) mode where you can link up blocks to make vehicles, then use some simple/complex set up thing to control it. (i.e. attach thrusters to blocks sort of like garry's mod (steam game)..?)
  • fps optimization (implementation of optifine?),
  • tons more wools with logos and stuff. In creative mode, you would actually have to click a button to view the wool menu.
  • more natural structures like underground mazes, canyons, jungle ruins, etc.
  • automatically resetting end world and portal, so that you have to find another one and then you can go back, but to another world,
  • ability to automatically download certain mod files from servers (i.e. something like tekkit or spout),
  • volcanoes, to make non-renewable ores, renewable,
  • arctic biomes, that actually can cause damage to you if you are out in the open when it starts snowing (they could be located far out in the minecraft world), (they aren't adding arctic biomes necessarily, but they are adding a new world type by the name of "Large biomes.")
  • Server lists that can be updated from a database that mojang makes, where people can post their servers (sort of like the classic version of minecraft's server list, only in game)
  • Bukkit being the default minecraft server, with an automatic set up.
  • shaders/shadows that change as the day goes on (Check out this shader mod, its unbelievable: (link) There's also a shader for water: (link))
  • Hard mode makes mobs have some boss A.I.
  • Much, much longer music, or even (better) jukeboxes that change to another disc when they're done with the song they are currently on
  • automatic curse block in chat that can be configured in the server properties
  • friends list, and ability to see what server your friends were on last, or when they were last online, along with an option to private message them when in a server without it showing in the console, by using an online system with logging in and stuff.
  • CaptainSparklez's Revenge parody's skin type for players
  • more realistic player movement when holding still, instead of arms moving a little bit
  • more hack defense for servers (i.e. nuker blocker, x-ray blocker, etc)
  • 3D world previews from above after entering in a seed that will update while you are changing the seed or whatever.
  • automatic mod installing. How it works: minecraft scans a file that modders have to make that will instruct minecraft to put certain files in certain places, such as single player commands putting worldedit.jar in bin, etc. Would only be able to put stuff in bin and minecraft.jar to prevent the ability to delete all your saves or whatever, even though it might
  • the minecraft server implemented into the game itself, so that you don't have to actually download the minecraft server and set it up. You could start up the server on a map by clicking 'open for multiplayer' or something like that. (edit: being implemented in 1.3)
  • the "Force Update" options name changing to something more obvious, such as "clean Minecraft.jar"
  • Mods being installed for minecraft in a seperate folder, so that they can be automatically executed and cleaned out if they fail rather than having to completely wipe out all the mods that you would normally be installing and having to reinstall.
  • Map types option being re-implemented (many more of them, like lava world, floating world, etc)
  • minecarts as lava boats
  • east-west and north-south quirks being fixed, so that minecarts, redstone, boats, and other things don't act strange
  • more durable boats so that they don't get annihalated on contact with a stretch of land, along with a better way of controlling them
  • redstone, boat, and minecart optimization in the server code to reduce them causing lag to the server, so that you aren't flying back and forth when enjoying your new rollercoaster and showing it off
  • the ability to make large storage minecarts
  • the ability to link minecarts together to make trains (would be able to support the large storage minecarts if they were implemented also)
  • the mod support mojang has been promising us for over a year now (getting implemented in 1.3 apparently :D) (edit 2: getting implemented in 1.4 instead, so that modders can work on getting their mods ported to multiplayer, since singleplayer is just a coverup of a server running in the background.)
  • customizable capes implemented into the game (as part of the skin png file)
  • pushable tile entities (i.e. chests, enchantment tables, furnaces, paintings, etc.) (you can do this using the redpower mod's frame system)
  • ability to change the background of the title screen, i.e. instead of a normal world you could look at the nether or end, you could be looking at where you left when you last logged off of a world, etc. (title screen changing to position in world)
  • music in the title screen
  • ability to visit a tutorial world to learn how to play minecraft (like the xbox version, only on the PC version)
  • certain features of the smart moving mod, such as sidling or using slabs to go along walls
  • different lighting options (you can do something like this using optifine.)
  • advanced options menu, with ability to choose your texture pack, what your texture pack calls for the png files such as creeper skin being changed from creeper.png to SuperCreeper.png, and other texture options. You would be able to change the chunk loading option, such as the game only loading the blocks that appear in your screen, pre loading a certain amount of chunks within the place you spawn within a world automatically, changing how often your client updates the world, and other world options. You could change camera controls, how the camera can be panned around (i.e. instead of 'MOUSE_UP: pan up', you could have 'O: pan up'). There would be many more options here.
  • an ability to go try out a server. You would be invisible, but unable to interact with the world at all besides moving, or chat in the console. You would not be able to see ores, to make sure people don't exploit this. You would only be able to be on try-out mode on the server for 5 minutes. This would be rather hard to implement, since it would have to be server-side, but clients would have to be able to choose their mode before joining the server. It would mainly be for seeing what the chat was like and stuff. You would only be detectable by ops, and they would see your username as 'hidden' in dark gray text, with you using the default steve skin, and appearing in their /list as 'hidden.' Server ops would be able to limit the amount of people trying out the server that could get on, the amount of time they could try it out, etc. (mojang is futzing around with a demo system that may be added in 1.3, but most likely in 1.4)
  • a lot more plants, and maybe even some mobs like bugs (not the coding bugs :P).
  • omniscient texture pack resolution support; it would all depend on the strength of your computer. Minecraft would check your fps and such to determine what resolution of texture pack you could use. If you clicked on a texture pack that would be too resource demanding, minecraft will display a button saying "This texture pack is too resource-demanding for your computer! Are you sure you want to apply it?" and there would be a cancel button and a continue anyway button. Minecraft would not run any texture pack with more than 512 pixels in a single block, and would message "This texture pack uses textures that are unable to be run!". (they are working on this)
  • More enchantments, and the ability to see the name of enchantments you are getting that are level 30 or more. More balanced enchantment algorithms, so people stop winding up in the situation where they enchant with 15 levels out of 20, and get efficiency 2 on one diamond pick, and turn to their other, and get efficiency 2 with some other enchantment such as fortune.
  • (more complex) Villagers that can place blocks, wield weapons, pick up items and whack hostile mobs (they're getting there - villagers can trade in 1.3)
  • customizable launcher? :P
  • ability to change your default font for texture packs, text in servers, signs, etc. to a common font such as times new roman, zapfino, comic sans MS, and other fonts.
  • ability to export minecraft worlds to openJ format using the game itself rather than an external program to use in animations, sort of what CaptainSparklez did with the set he used for the music parody he made called "Fallen Kingdom."
  • Make boats only right clickable when in water, so that people don't exploit this to go to the top of the nether. Same with minecarts and stuff.
  • Fix the nether height limit to make it so that you are no longer able to build on the top of the generated chunks. (getting fixed in 1.3)
  • When mobs and the player go in water, after they come out, they are dripping for maybe 10 seconds after. They cool off in around 5 seconds in the sun, as opposed to in 20 seconds when in the dark. (mobs and stuff drying off)
  • When wolves, sheep, and ocelots go in water, their texture would change to a 'soggy' version of them, until they dry off.
  • more features for the creative menu, such as a search bar at the top. (the notenoughitems inventory editor mod has a search bar.) (this is getting implemented in 1.3 - they have revamped the creative menu)
  • More colors for chat, rank prefixes, signs, etc. in servers, without having to have plugins.
  • links in chat are underlined and in blue text to make it more obvious. (this is possible, but you have to type &1&(?)LINK)
  • Since bukkit is a part of mojang now, I can give recommendations to them also. I suggest that they include much more spam protection to servers. i.e. if you type a message and send it more than three times per second you get kicked. You might also want to include a banning option in the server.properties, such as 'spam#beforeban: (number from 0 to (?). 1 message means you are instantly banned, 2 means a kick then a ban, 3 means 2 kicks then a ban, 0 means you don't get banned for spamming, etc.) (they are going to add more server protection to servers in 1.3, such as adding encryption to servers to prevent session stealing.)
  • an option in the options menu for when snapshots come out, whether to ask you if you want to apply it or not.
  • 'open texture pack folder' support for Macs
  • Superflat worlds that have a changeable depth/height where they are generated, so that we can build down further if we want. (could be changeable when you are entering parameters for when creating a new world) (you can get an outdated program called MCTerra that allows you to generate worlds like this. You can also use worldedit, depending on the strength of your computer.)
  • 3D features to items to make them look even cooler (i.e. 3d buckets, like from the 'cooking with iron golem' series
  • ability to change textures that assume the textures of other textures. (yo dawg) (i.e. slabs could be a certain color to tell minecraft that it takes the texture of the block assigned to it in the code. You could overwrite this color with some other texture to change it.
  • ability to change the texture that fences, iron bars, glass panes, nether fences and other blocks like that, use to indicate blocks are connecting. i.e. I could have a fence have a small link to another fence instead of it having 2 connectors
  • ability to add files for changing all faces of blocks and non-blocks, including weird ones like fences. You would make the texture in a template like an origami cube template, and the game would fold that. To indicate to the game that it is a custom texture for that block, you could put customblock_(block name) in a custom blocks directory in minecraft.jar. For liquids, you would make around 10 of the cube templates right next to each other, so that it will change animations between all of them. It would be titled something different so that texture packs that used other methods would still work.
  • (credits to my friend for telling me about this feature; it was in another game, but it sounds great and would work great for minecraft) A central mod place, where if you hit a 'subscribe' button, it will automatically install that mod the next time you start up minecraft. (you can always check out the curse client for minecraft.)
  • Worlds, preferences, and other details would be saved online on your profile, so that when you go to another computer, you can still have your stats, play on your worlds, etc. You could choose to make them accessible to other users when they log on to that computer or something like that.
  • More achievements, with points, so that people could compare their scores to other people. Similar to xbox live, only you would mainly get mods to get more points. You could only get points from approved mods, so that people don't exploit this by making mods for handing out tons of points or whatever. Mods could give you a maximum of 1000 gamerscore. This would need a lot of optimization to make sure people don't find ways to exploit this. :L
  • leaderboards on most mobs killed, most distance walked, etc. (there have been rumors about this on the minecraft wiki)
  • Different beds according to how you craft them, when you are in them, and if you put them right next to each other, sort of like chests. The wood would change according to the wood planks you used, i.e. if you use 3 birch tree planks, then it will be light on the bottom. This wouldn't change if you used multiple types, and if you used all 3, it would use the original wood plank texture. If you used 1 and 2, it would take the texture if the majority. For the top, the wool on the left would be for the pillow, and the ones in the middle and back would be for the sheets. For example, if I had a red wool on the left and 2 dark blues on the middle and right, then it would have a red pillow with blue sheets. If you put 2 beds next to each other, they become a big bed, and will blend the textures together. It would have 2 pillows of course, and one big blanket. When you sleep on a big bed, then you will sleep right in the middle. If you are in it, then the blanket will become more 3d and look raised like a hill. Yes good sir, this bed does make you look fat lol ;)
  • Different colored lights according to what you blend a redstone lamp with, i.e. white lights from being combined with bone meal, etc.
  • Option in video settings to 'enable shaders'. :D (optifine)
  • (Tons. And tons. And tons. And tons. And tons. and)^5 more noteblock sounds/instrument types, along with: More noteblock features, such as different colored ones for different noteblocks (wouldn't matter if you added this since they are already a tile entity, so either way pistons shalt not push them, unless another feature I wanted is added along with this), and a GUI for changing the noteblocks a whole lot more rather than having to right click every time and put them on specific blocks to make sure they're perfect, some way to test a noteblock sound in creative without instantly destroying it or using redstone, etc.
  • Improved biome characteristics to make the game more realistic, such as this for hills, this for rainforests, deserts that are like flatworlds but with small ridges and massive sand dunes, etc.
  • More world features. i.e. canyons, jungle ruins, etc.
  • More nether features to make it more appealing and/or mysterious.
  • WATERFALLS! You know you want them :P It would be so cool to have rivers leading over to waterfalls that maybe even have rapids that could pull you to them. This would need some water physics editing, though.
  • special root blocks for trees?
  • in the launcher, there would be a link to a mod marketplace, where you could go and: 1) log in to minecraft. 2) go to search. 3) find a mod you want. 4) click 'subscribe' on that mods name. 5) be done, close the window, go back to your minecraft launcher, and click log in. It would say 'installing mods..." as it is installing the mods, of course, and then it would launch minecraft. This would prevent the grueling task of having to download like 50 files for buildcraft, and realize you messed it up somehow, having to restart, and all that stuff nobody likes to deal with.
  • Pre-loaded alternate texture packs and/or gui selectors.
  • Redstone additions, such as putting it on walls, more colors to allow you to put it side by side, etc.
  • Different colored glass blocks (I know there is a mod), but when light goes through them, it will change the light color of the light that goes through it :D
  • A character creation feature when you first get minecraft, so you could change what you were, how tall you are, and stuff like that.
  • More painful features like thirst. LOL JK (mojang, if you're reading this, go see the other features please :P) (APPARENTLY THEY'RE ADDING RETARDED FEATURE GOES HERE *this is a placeholder*)
  • Mod creation central website
  • Coding language designed just for minecraft modders, so that they could either use .class files, or use special files that flow right with minecraft features. I'm not a coder, so I don't know what code looks like, but i.e: if {pig.turn.left} then {Exec EntityFunction{Pig.move.left}} (kinda like lua), or Block.Chest.TextureDirectory==.minecraft/bin/texturepacks/AlternateChest.png
  • Support for invisibility in certain blocks (i.e. redstone lamps) except for blocks that people see though when using x-ray such as stone, dirt, gravel, etc.
  • Anti-xray support on servers, including support for preventing people from using the textures that make the worlds invisible. (you may want to check out reorebfuscator, a bukkit plugin, if you want support for anti-xray.)
  • PlanetMinecraft link in the launcher right above minecraftforums! WE NEED TO BE HEARD ALSO :D
  • In chat, if you type a link to youtube, then it will be highlighted blue, and underscored.
  • Ability in server config to block out i.ps that users say in chat, and to block out curse words. (There are tons of anti-spam plugins out there, so you can look for those)
  • Ability to edit your skin in the menu screen.
  • You know how you can write in books? (as of 1.3, that is) Why don't we have some way to put those books in a bookshelf to get them back out (sort of like chests, only with less slots and only books allowed to be put in)?
  • Ability to draw on maps for guidance and anything you can think of with drawing on them :3
  • an option to open a movable keyboard gui in chat in the event something is up with your keyboard
  • a way to change the background of the text that is in multiplayer and/or singleplayer, from the console (i.e. [Server]:), and the background of what your text that you send in to the chat looks like to you - all configurable in texture packs under some folder or something in the gui directory in minecraft.jar like 'chat'. (they are adding chat opacity and the option to block chat out completely in 1.3)
  • option for you to add animated backgrounds for your title screen
  • option to change the title screen background viewing style to: simply flat without panning and a solid background, panning in a 3d environment like minecraft normally, or not panning, but in a 3d environment, with a slider to change your view around.
  • Mojang screen before the title screen has a loading bar for when you are starting up minecraft
  • option to make minecraft take up the whole screen in options, or as a window.
  • sound packs. (incorporate this: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/633749-125-sound-mod-enabler-v24/)
  • external programs that you can get from minecraft.net that are designed specifically for creating textures, sounds, and mod stuff (i.e. crafting recipes, size, shape, translucency... all that good stuff)
Added a color code for features that are getting implemented, features that are supported in mods or plugins, and things like that. Remember that this isn't just for the client, folks! :P I'll be categorizing the features into mod supported, plugin supported, confirmed to be added, and a few others. I may even add a few more. I'm not sure if you mentioned this (I'm to lazy to read the whole thing) but I think there should be more desert mobs like camels and snakes,etc.
Heh, I didn't mention that. That's a pretty cool idea :) I might add peoples ideas into the list the next time (and give credit) I have the energy to update it, but yeah, that's definitely something that should be added in 1.4, if not 1.3.
what about Spaaaaaaaaaaaace!
so no height limit.
they could add blackness and stars as you get to about 1024 and maybe you could actually get to the moon without having to download mods.
maybe they could also jump higher and maybe adding buildable rockets into the game?
That would be pretty cool :)
The rocket could be like a utility mob, in that you can actually create a rocket design (I'm not sure how they would implement multiple/flexible rocket designs without it corrupting existing structures that people have made) and then you could get in it, etc. They could also make it so that there could be zero gravity in space, and physics would be really weird with blocks (i.e. water and lava going all over the place, blocks that aren't connected to other ones going around slowly, and gravel not being annoying anymore! Also, maybe hitting blocks would send them around the place lol. And your minecraft player wouldn't have any specific sense of direction (i.e. if you keep your mouse moving up, you would keep going around, and maybe inertia would cause you problems :P). But yea, that's a pretty cool concept. Maybe something like that could be implemented in 1.4 or a mod, even though it would be cooler for it to be in vanilla minecraft.
I think they should add more mobs for animals instead of JUST sheep, cows, pigs, and wolves. Maybe add deer or bears as mobs. Bears could have fur which if they could add for as a item, used to make rugs for ambiance. And to make the rug it would be 3 furs in the middle and then 3 wool of any color on both sides. Same for deer. But they could have venison as a meat. Also, more pve mobs. I have a few ideas like ghosts or phantoms, they would float around like ghasts but instead of supah deadly fireballs, they have to melee attack. But could fly up and then attack from up high so you dont notice them, but that is just a idea. Also one or two more things. Add more ore types. Some examples may be silver for plates and all. That reminds me, make bowls place able on blocks. SO they would look cool for like dinning table :D. Another idea would be The ability to switch between creative and survival when in a survival game, but not allowing any items you put in your inventory to stay when you change back to survival. But that is a bit more of an iffy idea. Maybe even adding smarter animations for crouching or kneeling or swimming. But back tothe thing on ores, I would add plenty more like tin or copper. As for uses that may need some roughing out, but it may add some more variety to the game. But for now I am out of ideas so yah :D
