Now I know what you're thinking. After reading the title, you're probably imagining a whole desert temple made of red sandstone. But that's not what I mean...
Since 1.8 came out with red sandstone, I was thinking... Why do they even need the orange wool in temples anymore? They have an orange-ish sandstone color, so that should be perfect to replace the orange wool in temples. Spread the word of this idea and hopefully Dinnerbone might change it! Doubt it, but it would be cool to impact the game with just a little idea. Thanks for reading! :)

they did change the wool. to orange clay.

mojang doesn't own minecraft anymore. you didn't hear that microsoft bought them out?
either way, they were thinking about adding red temples for mesa biomes using the new sandstone.
