The birthplace of Christianity in the realm of Dolmite, St. John’s mission. This monastery has existed long before the Christian faith fully took hold in the various Kingdoms of what we now refer to as Christendom. In fact, this monastery has its origins linked to that of Christ’s message arriving in our lands for the first time, and the birth of Dolmite.

In the years prior to the establishment of the Holy Empire of Dolmite, pagan King’s ruled all of the lands. Dolmite itself, as well Rohguard and the other Kingdoms were all pagan before discovering Christ.

Around the year 380 or so, Christian missionaries arrived on the Southern shores of the continent Agartha, before it was called Dolmite. These missionaries came by sea from the far east, a mystical and distant land with its own peculiar Kingdoms, cultures, and religions. These missionaries landed in the southern deserts between modern Rohguard and Dolmite, what we now refer to as The Depraved Basin. The missionaries followed the roads to and from the various Kingdoms and Lordships of the lands, but found themselves unwelcome in most places. A few missionaries were able to set up a small camp in the Northern Wildlands of Rohguard and practice religious freedom for a time. Yet many of the Lords and King’s wanted nothing to do with the new Christian Faith. Aethelshire, home of the Freemen, took in some of the refugees, many of whom had been wounded, robbed, or assaulted by pagans who felt their beliefs were being challenged by the outsiders.

The Jarls of Dolmite at that time would not even let these messengers enter the city, and often sent out sorties of spearmen to raid their camps and harass them outside the city walls. Feeling that these lands and Kingdoms were unsafe and unholy, they journeyed back towards The Basin where they had arrived. They soon discovered, however, that this land had been occupied by Orcs and devilish creatures which also, were no longer allowed to inhabit the other Kingdoms or the Realms of Men. It was at this point that two of the Missionaries, two brothers descending from the region called Alkazara in the far east lands, took leadership of the weary, hungry, and distressed company of messengers.

The two brothers, Shulpae and Igmilum, led the company up the nearby mountain which sits just before the entrance to The Depraved Basin. This mountain which we now call The Lord’s Rock, provided safety from the devilish creatures and pagan men who hunted them in the forests below. It also provided an abundance of life and roots, berries, herbs, and small game which they could use to survive. A spring fed creek gave them water and life, their energy had been restored and their faith was stronger than ever. Upon this hill-top the Missionaries toiled endlessly for years, carving stone, and moving boulders the size of giants and trolls. In the year 405 the Monastery of St. John was officially open for worship and provided a safe haven for Christians to stay and worship the one true God. Unfortunately however, Igmilum died shortly after the first gates and halls were established in 405 and was not able to see the Monastery in its complete form as it is today. Igmilum, as well as a handful of others fell fatally ill during the winter, and many of them never recovered or perished.

Despite these losses, the company continued their quest for glory and righteousness. Shulpae continued the construction and often led worship and study of the bible, as well as transcriptions of new copies of the Holy Book. Soon after the winter snows began to melt, he sent out riders to the various Kingdoms and Jarldoms of the lands to spread the word of the new Monastery, and to gather believers who would support them with supplies, donations, or make the pilgrimage themselves to come and worship at the site. Most of the riders returned with what supplies and new believers they could gather, however some did not return and were hanged or burnt by pagan rulers.

Slowly and steadily the faith grew in the area and the Monastery seemed to flourish. Some Lords even converted early on to the Christian faith and helped to preserve the teachings in the land and provide protection to the Mission. Yet there were some rulers who felt the Monastery and the faith challenged their power. One such ruler was Rengheah, one of the Jarls of what is now Western Dolmite, at the time called the land of Penghyll. His son, Dolmita had been infatuated with the Christian faith ever since a missionary arrived in their town and spoke to him about the faith when Dolmita was just a boy. Renghead being devotely pagan, had the missionary flogged publicly and burnt alive. Dolmita watched as Renghead and his soldiers taunted the missionary and offered him relief from the flames and whips if he would only renounce his faith. The man never once renounced his beliefs in Christ and so he perished.

Dolmita had been studying the word of God secretly with a Bible he had purchased at the markets in what is now the port of Dolmite and the seat of the throne of the Kingdom. At that time it was merely a trade city, with wooden palisades protecting the market and industry. Rengheah soon discovered the book and found a wooden cross necklace that Dolmita was hiding. He cursed his son for his beliefs. He banished him to exile, never to return for he could not believe his son could falter from the ways of paganism.

Dolmita, took off on his own pilgrimage to the Monastery of St. John, where he began his devoted studies of the Bible with the other monks and believers. Dolmita, a very adept warrior and proficient swordsman also shared his teachings and taught many of the monks and Christian believers the way of the sword and shield. In the year 412 the First Order of the Lord’s Knight’s was established. A Holy elite regiment of Christian warriors who made blood oaths to protect the Monastery and fight for the Christian faith. Dolmita was appointed the leader of this regiment, and soon after he was made a Bishop, as a result of his in-depth knowledge and commitment to the word of God. So he was named Father Dolmite, in the year 415.

In the same year, word was brought to the monastery that Rengheah had passed away of an unknown illness. He had no other sons or heirs and his lands were erupting into chaos and disarray. Father Dolmite was excused from his studies for a time so he could ride to Penghyll to attend the funeral. By the time he arrived however, Rengheah had already been buried in the typical pagan fashion with much of his wealth. In the once great halls of Penghyll various land owners and warriors squabled for the remains. Father Dolmite entered the halls on horseback, trotting across the dining tables above the squabbling thieves and pagans. As the rightful heir he claimed the throne of Rengheah’s legacy. He demanded all those who did not follow Christ were to leave his lands, and that anyone who opposed could face him man to man. Heregeard, a hulking ax wielding warrior that easily stood a head above Father Dolmite, rose to occasion and demanded a duel in the square. If Father Dolmite was to be defeated, then we would leave and Heregeard would take over. Yet, Heregeard was slain, and many of the pagans and landowners fled. Those who remained, bent the knee and were allowed to live freely and safely in the lands.

The pagans that fled spread word across the southern lands, they spoke of Father Dolmite and what they had witnessed at Penghyll. In response, a great pagan army began to assemble themselves at the port of Dolmite and prepared to march on Penghyll. Father Dolmite, receiving word of this army, gathered all that could fight from Penghyll and rode to St. John’s Monastery. He assembled The First Order of the Lord’s Knights, and anyone else who would join them. He sent out riders to the Christian Jarls and to the Freemen of Aethelshire to come to his aid. Many brave Christian warriors responded and rode to the south. Upon a hot summer morning in the year of 416, the Holy Christian army arrived outside the palisades of the port. The pagans began to scream and shout war cries, drums were heard thundering as thousands of men poured from outside the palisade walls, some completely nude, some covered in body paint and markings head to toe. The two armies squared up and prepared to face off. Before midday the armies of Christendom had fully assembled, a glorious charge was led by Father Dolmite and The First Order. The two armies crashed together and by the grace of God the pagans were crushed under the mighty foot of the Christian army.

Upon his victory, Father Dolmite had the surviving Jarls and Kings who opposed him put to death and their heads put on pikes outside the city walls. The port city became the seat of his throne, and he began construction of a mighty castle and a Church near the water's edge. All Christian people were welcome to his Kingdom, and he was named King of the Lands, Father of Dolmite, The First Christian Kingdom of Agartha.

He allowed the Knight’s of the First Order to return to St. John’s if they so choose, and some remained in his company as his personal guard and friends, brothers in Christ. Safe passage was secured to the Monastery, and it remains a safe haven, and place of worship for all Christian people of these lands and the North. Under the undying protection of the King and his Holy Armies.

To this day the Monastery accepts new believers, and continues to spread the word of God and the teachings of Jesus Christ.
