I was just messing around with redstone in multi-player when i came across a way to dupe sand and gravel. It's not the most efficient but it does the job. It does not work in single-player.
To build you will need:
4 of any solid block
5 redstone torches
12 redstone dust
4 redstone repeaters
4 pistons (does not matter what kind)
and of course, sand/gravel.
Start with the blocks in a square shape and put the torches on top.
Next you want to set up the repeaters and the redstone.
Then you have to place the pistons on top of the torches.
Now place the sand/gravel on top of the pistons.
I already had mine going but now would be the best time to start up the machine. To do this simply take the last redstone torch, place it next to the dust, and remove it as quickly as possible. If it doesn't start up, give it another pulse from your torch and keep doing this until the pistons start freaking out.
If you did this properly, then you should get a result that looks something like this.
Have fun collecting your free gravel and sand.
I do have this on the Minecraft Forums so don't even think about trying to claim this as your own idea.
