Hello everyone! Today I will be discussing, what happened to servers? Why aren't they the same anymore? Well here is the problem.
Too many kids
Minecraft is mostly full of little kids, they can't do prison or survival, they only like stuff where they are kept at a rage-free pace.
Youtubers
Youtubers always play minigames and do mods. Causing little kids to go on the server they go on, trying to find them so they can fanboy all over them.
TOO HARD!
Old servers weren't really considered hard, but when the 6 year olds came in, they saw as survival and stuff like that was way too hard.
Minigames
That's just what they want to do for hours, play minigames until they drop. And with all these updates improving minigames, stuff like survival and creative is just gone.
Staff life
A kid's dream is to get staff. When you release a server on some website, all you will get is kids threatening to hack you if you don't give them staff.
The Strange Theory
I figured out something strange. When most people on my server started getting really skilled at building, people were already gone. I figured that (mostly on create) mostly the kids who were building built next to the mega builds, causing them to have determination, then give up and leave.

Well by all this imformation, the problem may be caused by mostly Youtube, but I have some feeling it's because of the fact that all the mature people are long gone.

You are close to get your answer. But I won't answer them, you must discover that by yourself.
Now today have i ben running a creative server for almost 3 years and its the cempletly oppisite og my old server, now is everybody OP from the start, and thers no protection plugins. And it worked great, we only had one grerafing problem in 3 years and we are 40 players avg about 5 online at the same time so i think its great. And some of the players have ben on the server for 2 years.
Show people some trust and they will live up to it.

Whoa. You should classify that as imature-kids.
Seriously,
I know I'm a kid but I can play survival and prison, I can win Survival
Games, I can lose Survival Games but I wouldn't rage about it. But
anyways, really?
The problem addressed in this article seems to be the fact that servers are trying to cater to the desires of the masses, instead of there being more specialized communities, which is completely true and should be fixed.
I really wonder why there aren't more servers and Youtubers dedicated to a younger fanbase...that would get the division in place so us more mature players can enjoy the game in peace on our own terms.
One last thing I will note though is that potentially all the older players are playing on private servers hosted by their IRL friends. I know that is the case for me.
