Hey guys and welcome to another blog post, and review of the current snapshot version of minecraft!

Snapshot 15w 31c (4th August 2015) has so far introduced a few of the features that Mojang has promised of the combat update. Today's blog will review some of the features brought in so far.

1) Dual Wielding - you can now have a tool, sword, map etc both of your hands as well as the option to change your main hand in the skin customisation options.

2) Dragon Head - depending on how Mojang plan to have this as a drop if it ever is, the dragon's head is now a skull item in the decorations tab.

3) Beetroot & Beetroot Soup - new food item found in villagers (confirmed) and end's farlands dungeons (I shall make a mention to this down below).

4) New Arrows - spectral arrows (glowstone) and potion tipped arrows with abilities such as leaping, invisibility etc.

5) New Chorus Plant - these are a new plant (and sort of food) located what's being dubbed as the 'farlands' in the end dimension. They can be used to counteract the levitation affect from shulks, and also serve as sort of edible enderpearls. You can make a farm out of these by getting the Chorus flower and placing on end stone.

6) Shulker Mob - located in the end 'farlands' these guys are also known as shell lurkers in the dungeons and various formations in the dimension area.

7) New Blocks - purpur blocks make up the formation of the end 'farlands' and come as a full block, pillar block, staircase and halfslab, there's also a endstone stone block and end rod that emits light.

8) End Dimension - a place accessible by portal on one of the adjacent island's teleports you to a massive place where chorus plants grow like wild and strange buildings and the occasional purpur block boat resides (trust me these boats have a beacon if you're prepared enough to take from it). The taller obsidian towers have iron bars to make arrows ineffective and they're more centralised around the pre-generated end dragon portal out of obsidian. The dragon can also breathe fire and rotate 'er actions, by going to the centre for a short time before flying out around the obsidian towers.

Snapshot 15w 33c (15th August 2015)
1) Shields - shields are not fully completed yet however their functionality serves to protect, replacing the right click for the sword. As someone whose played Zelda, this a real feel of combat. The durability for it's current ability to 100% block physical attacks is reasonable and was what I'd speculated with a friend whilst discussing them over skype. My one question is, will these shields be the same shape or will custom resource packs have to be the things to make custom shaped shields.

2) Removed Settings - Old news but Twitch Settings and the Super Secret Settings have been removed for a while, this is great for people like myself who don't use either or even use Twitch tv.

3) Dragon's Breath - Dragons Breath is a new potion component of Lingering potions as will be mentioned in point #4. The Enderdragon breaths on the endstone when near the portal area in the middle of where you fight the dragon, you can get these by right clicking on the areas where those breath particles are with a glass bottle.

4) Lingering Potions - Lingering potions are the third type of potion introduced to the 1.9 combat update. Unlike regular potions or splash potions these are intended to 'linger' for the duration of time that they're set for. There's also been minor tweaks to the slowness potion in terms of hearts/durability.

15th August 2015
There's more but these are the ones that attracted my attention moreso. There's talk that Mojang will make a shield, in regards to the shield and dual wielding I hope that they make both 'hands' functional and that the shield can be used with a sword. I'm not sure about making more blog posts about the future snapshots but I can say for sure that I am verily looking forward to this combat update.

I have high expectations of Mojang with this update, feel free to comment on what
you're looking forward to with the combat update and speculations and what features you'd like to see in the 1.9 update.

My thoughts on this new snapshot, shields have been the big thing recently that I've speculated and looked forward to. While the mechanics aren't completed, I'd love to be able to have custom shield shapes along with the rectangular shield. I like the current mechanic of 100% blocking attacks with 180 durability, however, I think that reducing the chance to 25% - 50% for chance of physical attacks to be blocked would make durability more valuable and bring in more 'combat skill'. I'm not a pvper so many of these combat features may not help me vs players but great for tackling bosses and enemies.

Snapshot 15w 34e to 15w 36d (29th September 2015)
These snapshots have primarily addressed world save problems and reported bugs with some of the new features.

Snapshot 15w 37a (29th September 2015)
Snapshot 15w 37a introduced balanced tweaks, shields were balanced as well as tools and weapons tweaked again after a previous snapshot tweaking the balance. Hardcore worlds are now spectatable upon death rather than a deletion and in regards to the spectator mode, chunk generation can be disabled through a game rule.

The off- hand can now be used to shoot the bow and chunk generation is smoother in multiplayer and singleplayer worlds. New flatworld presets, bug fixes and performance optimisations.

I'm still looking forward to the update coming out, peace out until the next update on this blog!

Snapshot 15w 38b (29th September 2015)
Mainly bug updates and fixes to reported bugs.

Snapshot 15w 39c (29th September 2015)
In this snapshot once again the Mojang team are addressing the bugs and issues reported by users, performance is said to be better on older computers but I am yet to personally see that myself. Redstone contraptions are faster loading up as well. During this time the minecraft team are at a company workshop and Dinnerbone has been updating the snapshots in place of them at this time until they resume their work.

29th September 2015
Technically speaking I haven't actually been able to properly play the recent snapshots as my fps goes nuts compared to the earlier snapshots. It's clear that Mojang's not done with this yet but hopefully, just hopefully, I can play the pre- release when they bring it out. They've really ramped up the difficulty level in this which is good in a way. I am a little skeptical about the reason of the 1.8 lag that Dinnerbone has mentioned, perhaps he may reveal it one day or I'm not looking close
enough.

Snapshot 15w 41b (8th October 2015)

Here's the changelog from the mojang website:

Fixed boats.
Added reward to End Cities.
Broke boats.
Improved cheat detection in multiplayer.
Fixed boats again.
Swoosh.
Splash.
Oink.

October 8th 2015
So now I've been able to access the latest snapshot 15w 41b (my main pc doesn't work with the snapshots for some reason but this isn't a debate about the blog). Okay getting to the hard facts, when the world loads up, whether it's my graphics card not being powerful enough the world glitches up bad (unplayable bad) (Mojang please fix that!).

Whilst playing the game I have a better understanding of the new combat system so far implemented. Each sword has the same damage but different speeds, even the classic diamond sword has the same but highest speed. I'm slowly getting a new understanding of the new mechanics after playing 1.8.8 with optifine and shaders.

I like that there's little images on the single player worlds and the snapshot version accessed by, this is rather helpful and handy in ways. It looks like they retextured the shield ever so slightly, as well as changed the recipe for the shield (minecraft.gamepedia.com/Shield) removing colour options. There's a somewhat amusing little white swish that you see when the sword strikes a mob as well.

*Minor Notes*
Skeletons are more intelligent in this snapshot, shields are advised to be used.
Sharp 5 makes the diamond sword go up to 10 damage.
Hearts appear when mobs or other player/s are attacked.
The damage gauge appears with every mouse- related movement.

*Edit* Turns out it was my graphics card on my laptop that wasn't updated but I've only started to use this laptop again so I wasn't aware an outdated graphics card would be an issue in regards to snapshots or minecraft in general.

Mobs and players can also push players in 15w 40b apparently...

Snapshot 15w 42a (October 15th 2015)
Mojang introduces the newest features, bug fixes and opimisations adding in a bit of humour.

Added two new “treasure” enchantments: “Frost Walker” and “Mending”.
Treasure enchantments cannot be created, only found.
“Frost Walker” enchant leaves a path of frost (new block) behind you, when walking across water.
“Mending” enchant allows items to stay durable, at a cost.
Improved speed & handling of boats.
Added new cost to using brewing stands.
Fixed a bunch of bugs.
Optimised a bunch of plugs.
Drank from a bunch of jugs.

October 15th 2015
As mentioned in another blog I previously commented on, the idea of focussing on combat is starting to stray whilst I carefully follow these snapshot updates. Fishing has another reason to be done where the enchanting Frost Walker I or II (Game of Throne reference anyone? White Walker?) and the "Mending" enchant.

The cost for "mending" is still a mystery but I can guess it could be at the cost of xp levels, materials in your inventory? I haven't yet explored that. I'm sure someone else will just make a blog about it but this isn't talking about other blogs lol. Boats are still difficult to handle at best, the whole "oar" side of it is confusing to get into especially when I rarely have the need to use boats.

The Infinity & Flame enchant don't have the 'I' beside them in this update which honestly does make more sense in ways compared to the other enchants which have different levels. The frost block created by wearing boots with Frost Walker (thankfully) breaks and despawns shortly after which means no afking in the middle of the ocean!

What an interesting twist to make brewing stands use blaze powder, I didn't see this coming, as if lingering potions would be hard enough empty glass bottles are a new needed item for fighting the ender dragon too.

Snapshot 15w 43a (October 22nd 2015)
This week's snapshot had the following changes:

1. New Igloo structure that spawns in the world, some of these structures contain a ladder way down to a potion lab place.
2. Using command blocks, the 'loot table' concept, the mobs and randomly generated chests can be changed to suit map creators or whether you're a smart cookie to change drops to whatever you want.
3. Stronghold limits per world have been increased, this means more dungeons for one example.
4. Debug menu has been improved and F3+ (blank) have been added in so you can see what F3 ones do what.
5. More big fixes and some "unfixes"

October 22nd 2015
Following up from watching Xiumavoid's snapshot video for 15w 43a I can confirm that not only fishing but also strongholds and certain villagers if you're lucky to. Also I discovered, through Vech's video "Return to Minecraft" that the Mending enchant uses experience dropped that can be used to maintain durability. I hope that this update proves to be just as interesting as the 1.8 update as I've got ideas and new plans for builds thanks to new introduced mechanics.

Snapshot 15w 44a (October 29th 2015)
In this snapshot, Dinnerbone also explicitly speaks that he and the team are pretty much near the end of main features planned for this snapshot. As normal the Mojang team will work on balancing the version and ironing any bugs out of 1.9 in preparation for release. This snapshot adds the following:

1- Loot found in generated chests in areas like dungeons are rebalanced a little differently to the pre- 1.9 chests (Xiumavoid also explains this in detail in his video)

2- New mechanic for respawning the enderdragon (I linked Xiumavoid's video for better detail on this)

3- New item - the End Crystal. Dropped from Skeletal Horses (these spawn in groups of 4 during thunderstorm or horses struck by lightning)

4- "Buff Bar" at the top of the screen is respectfully hidden and ambient effects (Xiumavoid also explains this in detail in his video)

5- Saturation - food mechanic only applies when you're not hungry (Xiumavoid also explains this in detail in his video)

6- Bug fixes

7- Apparently bones and bone meal are "50% cooler" according to Dinnerbone, no idea why

Some more details into some of the new changes:

End Crystal => Can be placed on an obsidian or bedrock block in the overworld, possibly in the Nether, but also confirmed in the End dimension.

Skeletal Riders => I wasn't initially aware of this when I did the snapshot as I had seen the one addressing bug fixes. The End Crystal is a 100% frop from Skeletal Horses.

Here's the references that I've used in this snapshot segment, also gives extra insight into what I missed and additional details:

October 29th 2015
It's good to hear that 1.9 is nearly ready, but a little sad since I've invested over 2 months of work into doing this blog. But, I'm glad that the new version is here soon because these features change the way that even the old minecrafters play the game, new, and a little exciting if I'm honest. PvP will certainly be changed, perhaps for the better in some regard, bringing in some new strategy and enchants will become more important to winning a battle.
If you know how to summon these horses let me know please, I'm quite interested in trying this actually.

Snapshot 15w 44b (6th November 2015)
End crystals are now obtainable in survival as of this snapshot

Snapshot 15w 45a (6th November 2015)
In this snapshot this week the Mojang team are addressing the numerous bugs that need to be ironed out.

November 6th 2015
Not long now until 1.9 is officially released, I'm excited for this :D

Snapshot 15w 46a (13th November 2015)
This week the Mojang team address more bugs that have popped up in this snapshot. They also advise looking into the changes for resourcepacks before the official release of 1.9. That is all for this week's snapshot.

November 13th 2015
It's good that the 1.9 update will be here soon, features- wise this update is a good one. But as it goes, there's both good and bad things about the snapshot for me. Perhaps I may do an overview of my thoughts about it in a separate blog.

Snapshot 15w 47a (19th November 2015)
This week's snapshot the Mojang team is focussing on not only the bugs reported in preparation for 1.9's release but also some complaints that minecraft players have made during this time.

- Bug Fixes
- Better support for transparency in skins
- Reverted a change to redstone blocks that caused some issues with redstone contraptions in the previous snapshot
- Changed something in the bacon (Mojang purposely misspelt this) block
- Balacing tweaks

November 19th 2015
Recently
been lacking the inspiration or desire to want to play minecraft, a little burnt out as others would say. Trying to get back into it but my personal life has been legitimately busy, and unpredictable. I'm also balancing my time with minecraft out so I'm not always on my laptop.

November 25th 2015
Jeb_ has confirmed that minecraft 1.9 will not be released as a full update over this holiday season, so that they can iron out the bugs and fix them up ready for after the holiday season is completed. I will update this blog if any new information comes out.

Snapshot 15w 49a/b & 50a (10th
December 2015)
These last couple of snapshots are just bug fixes and AI changes to the mobs

Snapshot 15w 51b (19th December 2015)
Quoted from the website because it was written amusingly xD

Update: Snapshot 15w51b is now available and fixes a crash in the AI and pathfinding code.

The snapshots decided to take a vacation to celebrate christmas, but we could convince them of one last appearance before they disappear for the rest of the year. But no worries, the developers are also on vacation, so there won’t be any changes in the game that you could miss.

As a special guest star we have the bug fix for one of our most popular recent bugs included in this weeks snapshot. The world generator will now no longer take a coffee break while the player is riding a horse or using a boat. And I was told that even riding a minecart is on that list."

Snapshot 15w 60b (14th January 2016)
First snapshot of 2016! Mainly bug changes but they have confirmed that the bug fixes are making the official release of 1.9.

Snapshot 16w 04a (1st February 2016)
Mainly bug changes in preparation for 1.9.

Snapshot 16w 05a/b (8th February 2016)
Mainly bug changes in preparation for 1.9.

Snapshot 16w 06a (11th February 2016)
Mainly bug changes in preparation for 1.9. Close to a first pre-release for 1.9.

Snapshot 16w 07a (16th February 2016)
Once again...mainly bug changes. Wish there was more exciting stuff to write but really...it's just Mojang working towards the pre-releases and the full release of 1.9.

February 16th 2016
It's been a long time since I actually wrote one of these. The new update's hype has dwindled and honestly I just want this update out. This update feels like a love/hate one because of the changes to attacking baddies. The dual wielding remains as a very handy thing for building that's for sure. My recent posts on the updates have been bleh due to the fact they're just updates to fixing bugs for
1.9.

Pre- release 4 for 1.9 (28th February 2016)
Mojang have been releasing pre's for the final and official version of 1.9. As well as the return of a snapshot server I have been playing on, I've also been reinvigorated with the excitement of a new update and getting back into minecraft. The new mechanics for attacking enemies are still a hit and miss kind of thing for me, it's enjoyable but I'd rather have high enchants and good gear than face them with low gear.

My Final Thoughts:

The update for 1.9 officially released and I've been enjoying it, the update thus far is very enjoyable and I do recommend taking the time to enjoy the update, like any it has it's upsides and downsides but the upsides of how enjoyable this game is worth giving the update a chance.

Minecraft 1.9.2 inc. 1.9 + pre releases
First of all I'd like to tenderly apologise for not updating this post for over a month...I've had a lot of real life stuff happening and I just didn't have the energy to update this blog. BUT. I have not forgotten about it.

So to sum up the pre releases and the 1.9.2 release...Mojang fixed a lot of the bugs releasing 1.9. The current update 1.9.2 addresses bugs as well as a minor change to not penalise someone for "spam clicking", Elyrtra have also been given a "whooshing" when you're flying with as well. I am back into minecraft and contrary to the changes to fighting, the overall update is good and adds a positive challenge and this will be final blog entry in this as the official Combat Update is complete!

If you are interested in seeing another snapshot update post, for a future update there's a possibility that I may do another one in the future. Just keep watching!

I'm kinda iffy on this update. The combat changes are going to affect a lot of gameplay, good or bad. I don't think the whole 'Ice Walker' thing is really needed. It's cool, yes, but it's just another feature that seems modded. Same with the Elytra, pretty darn cool, but it feels modded. The extention of the End feels a bit useless, like Mojang was trying to do something to fill the space. The purpur fruit is really useless, seeing as it teleports you to a random places five blocks away.

Just my opinions ^^

Every update brings both bad and good things, such is life although. The expansion to the End in ways makes the dimension a little bit more interesting cause after killing the dragon and building end farms it did get a little boring traversing the End. I think that element appeals more to adventure in a way. Everyone will have a view on the 1.9 update and a little healthy discussion is good :)

The craftable ender crystals are definetly a wanted change :P

I personally think that craftable (that's probably not a word) end crystals are a bad idea. That's just my opinion but I think killing a skeleton horse is better than crafting it. Hunting down something is more of a challenge than just crafting it. But other than the new command blocks, I think the update is pretty cool.

I did some pvp with my mate on 1.9 and it is a lot harder! But more interesting. The only thing that I don't really like in this update is that they changed how some commands worked... But other than that it is fantastic!

I'll admit, when meddling with command blocks on my quake map world to keep clear weather it felt like it was more fiddly compared to when I've used them before. It's one of the lesser liked changes. The change in pvp makes it feel like knights in shining armour fighting with swords and shields, at least that's what I feel it's like.

Yes it does feel more heroic fighting people with tactics other than spamming left click.

I like it, and the 9yr old minecrafters (no offence to them in any way) can't spam click. And as a mention as well hacks can't work as effectively because of the new fighting mechanics.
