The Sun
The Sun Is in the middle of our Solar System and all the planets orbit around the Sun. The Sun is also the closest star and is 150 million km away from earth. Also the Sun is 14,000,000 *C at the core, 1,000,000*C at the outer core and 6,000*C on the crust. You must never look at the Sun directly even when protecting your eyes because it will make you blind from the UV rays (ultra violet).
Also the Sun has dark coloured spots which are cooler than the rest of the Sun. But these spots are only small compared to the sun and some can be up to the size of Jupiter!
(Earth not included in this poster)
Mercury
Mercury is now the smallest planet there is (because Pluto is no longer a planet). Mercury is also the fastest planet to orbit the Sun because for Mercury it takes only 88 earth days to orbit the sun at a whopping speed of 173,000 kph!
Mercury surprisingly isno t the hottest planet its next door neighbour Venus is. Mercury looks very much like our Moon because of all the craters in both of them!
Venus
Venus is the hottest planet because Mercury has no clouds to keep the heat in/out but Venus does and so it keeps the heat in. Also Venus was named after the roman God of love & beauty: Venus. It was called this because many people think that ito s the most beautiful object in the sky at night.
Venus has been mistaken for a star many times because of how bright it is when we see it. Also a very interesting fact is that a day on Venus lasts 243 earth days but a year lasts 225 earth days!
Mars
Mars has two moons: Deimos & Phobos which look nothing like our moon. Mars has the biggest volcano we know about called Olympus Mons. This volcano is about 600 km across and 25 km high also it has runny rivers of black lava!
Mars was named after the roman God of war: Mars because of its blood red colour. The reason why it is red is because the soil is rich in iron.
Jupiter
Jupiter is the biggest planet in our planet and is one of the o Gas Giantso . Jupiter also has a massive spot on it called the Great Red Spot. This spot is actually a massive storm thato s has been going on for 300 years!
Also because Jupiter is so big you could fit all of the planets (not including Pluto because ito s not a planet any more) into it and fit 2 earths into the Great Red Spot.
Saturn
Saturn is the second biggest planet and is also one of the o Gas Giantso . Also if there was an ocean big enough Saturn would float! Saturn has 18 moons but there could be a few more!
Saturno s rings dono t have names but scientists call them A ring, B ring and C ring. Saturno s rings also are not solid and the smallest chunks of the rings would be the size of a golf ball.
Uranus
Pronounced Ur-anus (rude people pronounce it Uran-us) is a very stinky planet and is made out of methane. Uranus was almost called George after King George III but then it got named after the Greek god of the sky: Uranus.
On Uranus summer lasts 42 years because of Uranuso s tilt. Uranus has 17 moons. This planet was also found by mistake.
Neptune
Neptune has pink snow because of the frozen nitrogen also there is pink snow on Neptuneo s largest Moon Triton. Astronomers knew Neptune was where it was before they discovered it because there was a big force of gravity pulling Uranus towards it.
Also the dark spots on Neptune keep appearing and then disappearing because like Jupiter Neptune has millions of storms on it.
