If you're reading this, you've obviously taken it from my cold, dead, skeleton hands. Good! That's how I wanted it.
I hope for your sake that you came down here safely, preferably with a ladder or something, 'cause otherwise you'll end up just like me. Anyway, I'm going to stop rambling and get to my point for writing this.
Looking back on my life, I've made plenty of mistakes that I hope that others can learn from. The purpose of this book is to teach newcomers how to live a healthy, long, and prosperous life, which will not come to an end like mine has.

I've made the following list to guide you in your travels:
  1. Build your home in a hospitable place with plenty of resources at your disposal. I built my first house in the desert with no wood, and nearly died. As a side note, don't forget to place torches inside of your home, as otherwise monsters will spawn in there.
  2. Find a place strategically safe place from monsters to build you house. I built my first house on a hill with few passages up to it, which was its one good feature.
  3. Make tools as quickly as possible. If your spawn point has trees, make good use of it. Mining resources and making a sturdy house before nightfall can greatly aid you in the longrun.
  4. Mine for better material safely and constantly. My second near-death experience came from fighting monsters with bad armor and tools.
  5. Make buckets! They're more helpful than one would think, especially when monster hunting or mining. They can be used to fend off poison with milk, get rid of lava and/or collect it with an empty bucket, and even to prevent drowning (by collecting the water from the block you're in).
  6. Make torches! Torches can also help out too! They prevent monsters from spawning and obviously light up areas. Don't worry about keeping them lit, either; they burn forever!
  7. Play it safe. Make use of the crouch/sneak button (shift), which makes sure that you don't fall off of a ledge. Make sure to especially do so on bridges!
  8. Make like Doctor Who and RUN!! If you find yourself surrounded by monsters, don't think your life is worth a few measley mob drops.
  9. Use the Wiki when necessary. This might not make sense now, but it will soon.
  10. Learn how to use redstone. Whether you have an advanced knowledge or the basics, redstone devices can come extremely handy, from hidden doors and mob spawners to instant walls and giant robots.
  11. Learn to brew and enchant. Brewing is very imporant knowledge once you have the necessary resources for it. It spans from turning invisible to fire resistance, which can make collecting those resources much easier, too. Enchanting is also important, as it also has many different effects, from putting spikes on your armor to decreasing fall damage.
  12. Explore you world. Each world is unique, and with that comes a brand new experience from each world. Finding temples, villages, and nether fortresses can both offer otherwise non-existent valuables and better resources (e.g. gold, armor, saddles, etc.)
  13. Craft a compass. You cold get lost in the infinite expanses of your world more easily than you'd think.
  14. Upgrade you house/base. It's always nice to have nice things, especially when you know that you made them. Whether you're adding obsidian to make it explosion proof or designing your living room, we all need something to do from time to time.
  15. Go to the nether. Make a hollow, upright rectangle with the measurments of 4x5 out of obsidian, and set the inside on fire. Congrats! You've just created a portal to an alternate dimension called the nether. The nether could be closely associated with hell though, so arm yourself to the teeth with the best armor, tools, weapons, and food as you can. Also, you can't place water in the nether (it evaporates), which is a problem since the nether has a lot of lava and fire all of the place.
My last word of advice before I leave you and this world is...

    16. Make friends. I've found that in my many years of solitude, I've grown lonely and sad.
         I don't
wish for anyone else to share my fate, so share the experience with someone. I
remember a saying from a time long since past that carries this point: "the more the
         merrier."

I hope that my advice has helped you in any way, and that my knowledge has been passed to someone who can use it to their advantage, so that they will not repeat history's mistakes. Lastly, before I fade into the abyss, good luck. You'll need it to get to the end.
