Come gather close mates,
Allow me the privilege to tell you a tail
A story of humble beginnings,
a fortune of unimaginable wealth,
And a betrayal so devastating... it resulted in the pile of bones you now see before you.
well... let's not waste another moment...
My story begins back before I was the legend you see before you,
I was but a humble flesh-filed man.
I pirate yes but not a great one at that... or at least not yet...
you see I was... well... broke, some might even say worth less than dirt.
I had barely a shieling to my name. working a shipyard day and night.
my back and muscles would always beg for me to end their misery, to find a new life.
one filled with riches and excitement, hope, and glory!
and as luck would have it... on a cold autumn night... fortune arrived.
rumors spread across the harbor and every tavern in the village
one of a fantastical group of islands that were practically made of gold.
a place so remote no government dare chart a course... it was called
"The Sea of Bandits" (or something like that)
There were also rumors of a ship bound for this fabled destination.
so that very night I stowed away on board that vessel...
During the entire voyage, I managed to stay hidden not one of them knew of my presence.
and by the time we'd reached our destination, I was gone.
I stole a raft that was hitched to the back of that vessel and sailed to the closest port.
from there, I worked for several crews, I did everything from cursed treasure hunting to delivering spices and chickens.
but it was never enough...
sure I had become far wealthier than I had before but I needed something more...
I needed... GLORY AND FAME!!
and with my desire for fame soon came... The flame...
I was sitting in a tavern celebrating my crew's recent plundering in the Devil's Roar.
waist my mates were all dancing and drunken with ail, a figure approached me.
A man dressed in red and black leather robes hid his face behind a mask that seemed to be made of wood
but its face was glistening and golden.
he said to me in a deep and withered voice-
"so I can tell by the look on your face that your in need of some company..."
Me- "more like in need of some excitement"
"what do you mean? I heard you and your crew just fought the crew of the Horn Bill for a cursed artifact."
"It was nothing more than a chest of sorrow"
"Oh... my condolences"
"We were lucky to even find a buyer... vast riches like that are starting to become more and more common"
"then perhaps you should seek out something different then... something fair and more valuable than gold..."
"Like what exactly?"
"something that all those fools couldn't possibly imagen..."
"Magic?"
"Ey something like that... though to be more specific-"
the hooded man razed his mask from his head and placed it on the table.
I looked at his face only to find a cold white dead skull staring back at me.
are black sockets looked into my fearful eyes, and he said.
"The power to defy death..."
in my time here I knew some treasures could poses the power to curse any poor unsuspecting pirate.
I saw a few of the locals with their skin turned to gold. others, though mostly in the Devil's Roar, had their inside turned into flames. their skin glowing like the stranded glass of a lantern.
but this... this was something I hadn't even imagined to be possible...
I sat there frozen in fear... I thought to myself-
who was this that was speaking to me? was it death? The devil? or something worse...
I tried to hide my fear, but the skinless see dog persisted.
"HAHAHA, the fleshes reactions to that never get tiresome. so what be your name sailor?"
"C- Clint... sir... Clint Finch"
"Well... Captain Finch... How would you like to Join my crew?"
"Captain?"
"Yes, we lost our own to a fight with the order of souls... there a dangerous lot..."
"they call me Quarter on account of me being the quartermaster, are you interested in my offer?"
"Ey, quartermaster..."
"well then..."
Quarter pulled a small challis from out of his coat, he then pulled out a disgustingly old bottle of what I thought was rum.
he opened the bottle with his skeletal teeth, unleashing a horrible stench of rot and hunny into the air, pours the contents into the glass, hands it to me, and then says-
"A toast, to a pirate's life for us..."
As I gulped down the mysterious drink I felt a sudden burst of heat burst through my body.
like all my organs had been set ablaze, there was so much pain...
then I looked down at my hands and then I saw it... my bones...
and from that day no more was I the kind and innocent human that walked this earth.
I became a MONSTER!
