This contraption is very adaptable, and can be changed as you see fit. This tutorial covers a trap version using dispensers and Stone.

Materials(For this model): -Lots of Stone -Lots of Redstone dust -3 Redstone Torches -7 Redstone repeaters
-4 Dispensers -4 Pistons -2 Stone Pressure Plates.

So here we go...

Step 1: Find where you want to place the contraption. Ensure you have room for it (Varies per design).

Step 2: Dig a 2 block deep hole and extend it 5 blocks over, so you end up with a 2 block deep trench that is 5 blocks across.

Step 3: Stand in the middle (3rd block from either side) and find the direction you hall will go, then turn and face RIGHT.

Step 4: Walk to in the direction you face in the last step, and stop when you cant walk anymore, and break the TOP block so you can hop out of the trench.

Step 5: Place redstone dust along the original 5 blocks of the trench, and then place a redstone torch on the block you did not break in the previous step.

Step 6: Exit the trench (if you have not already) and place 2 stone blocks on the top LEFT side (opposite of the redstone torch) so that the left side of the trench is 4 blocks high and your redstone torch is on the right leaving you an exit.

Step 7: Cover the trench with stone leave the redstone torch uncovered.

Step 8: Place 2 stone pressure plates on the LEFT side of your covered trench (Next to the 2 stone blocks that you placed on the LEFT of your trench in step 6). Try stepping on the pressure plates. The redstone torch should go out, and turn back on when you step off the pressure plates.

Step 9: Place a stone block on top of the redstone torch so that it hides the torch.

Step 10: Place a SECOND redstone torch on the block above the FIRST redstone torch. It should go out because of it being powered by the First torch. Place another stone block on the SECOND redstone torch. Place a THIRD redstone torch on the block above the SECOND redstone torch. The FIRST and THIRD redstone torches should be glowing. Step on the pressure plates. The SECOND redstone torch should glow and the THIRD should turn off.

Step 11: Things may get confusing from here. Face the stone blocks you placed in step 6, with your back to the redstone torches. Extend this as far as you want, this is the length (how long) your hall is going to be.

Step 12: Go and position yourself so that you are facing the SECOND redstone torch, and you can see the pressure plates through the gap between the torch and the block above it. Now step 2 blocks backwards, so there is a 2 block gap between you and the redstone torches, then fill the gap with 2 stone blocks.

Step 13: Starting at the 2nd block you placed in the previous step, place stone blocks following the direction of the wall you built in step 11. Stop where the wall (from step 11) stops.

Step 14: On the 2 blocks you placed in step 12, place redstone dust, then place redstone dust on the first block you placed in step 13. Place a redstone repeater, with the arrow pointing towards the end of the step 13 wall. Place redstone dust aftert the repeater, then another repeater set the same as the last one, followed by more redstone dust. Continue this pattern untill the step 13 wall is covered in repeaters and redstone dust. This should end in a redstone dust not a repeater, so shorten or extend your step 13 and 11 walls.

Step 14: Right click all repeaters 3 times.

Step 15: Starting from the redstone dust you placed beside the first repeater place 3 blocks heading towards the step 11 wall, then place redstone dust on the first block you placed this step. Step on the pressure plates. The Second redstone torch should still turn on, and the Third one should turn off. The repeaters should turn on with the rest of the redstone dust.

Step 16: Place dispensers, with the hole facing the step 11 wall, on the second block you placed in step 15. Then place a stone block in front of the dispenser preventing it from...Dispensing.

Step 17: Step on the pressure plates, and all effects listed in step 15 should happen and you should hear the dispensers make a loud *CLICK*.

Step 18: There should be a 1 block gap between the 3rd stone block you placed in step 15, and the stone blocks you placed in step 16. Place stone blocks in these gaps making a wall like the one in step 11.

Step 19: Place stone blocks following the step 11 wall so that the new wall covers all the wiring so far. Move the FIRST pressure plate to the RIGHT side of the SECOND pressure plate so they are centered.

Step 20: Place a stone block next to the the THIRD redstone torch block. Place one Stone block on the previous.

Step 21: Place more stone blocks next to the last one you placed in the last step. They should follow the step 18 wall. When done, break the second block you placed in step 20.

Step 22: Place redstone dust, and repeaters along the stone path you built in step 21, matching the ones from step 14, except in the first repeater's spot place redstone dust.

Step 23: Right click the repeaters from step 22 twice. The repeaters except the first one should match up.

Step 24: Place STICKY pistons beside the redstone dust spaces in the previous step, except the one where the redstone dust replaced a repeater, make sure the part that extends on each one is facing a block covering a dispenser. They will immediately activate when placed.

Step 25: Step on the pressure plates. The pistons should un-cover the dispensers then the *CLICK* of the dispensers should be heard AFTER the pistons do their thing.

Step 26: Fill your dispensers with what you want (arrows, etc.) then test fire them.

Step 27: If they work good! If they don't work go back and look for your error.

Step 28: Cover all the wiring/pistons.

Step 29: Done with the device.

Step 30: Nothing I just added this because I'd like to stop here.
