TEXTURE PACK HELP

I was making my own texture pack, and when i saved it and played with it, there was a white square around all the items, i need to know how to fix that. Can someone please help me? I edited the bow, the fishing rod, and all the tools. (swords, pickaxes, axes, shovels, and hoes.) And it really upset me to know that all my hard work doesnt work, like i said, can someone please help?

It's because you need a transparent background, rather than a solid white background.

Depends on what program you're using. It would be in your interests to search/google around for texture pack tutorials though. There are quite a few on this site alone~
