#1 Don't eat or scavenge chests when being followed by horde of zombies
#2 Don't stay together. Just, run.
#3 Don't go into small places where you cannot run, stay in flat places (roads)
#4 As said before, don't stay in one place with your team too long (basically never stop running). Its good to be in team, if it doesn't stay in one place and always moves.
#5 Put your bullets away in the inventory, you will never need them on your hotbar. I use that place for medkits.
#6 Know the map. You might want to remember where what building is located. You might also not see the fireworks in the sky when the rescue team will be coming.
#7 When you need to stay those three minutes in the house for rescue team to come, you should stay near other players. Don't be scared to use your ammo.
#8 If the zombies aren't following you (yet), you shouldn't use your weapon. Just try to run away. I personally try to not kill many zombies until its needed.
#9 Know what weapon to use, and when. Use the pistol if there is few single zombies following you, machine gun if there's a medium horde of zombies following you, and the shotgun if a huge horde of zombies is following you. The knife is useful if there are few zombies following you, and you don't want other zombies to notice you, or if you were scavenging a chest and a zombie starts attacking you.
#10 You shouldn't spend over 5 seconds scavenging one chest. Take items in this order -
1. Armor (if you don't have that type yet)
2. Medkits
3. Food! (if you already have over 40 meat, you might ignore that)
4. Shotgun bullets
5. Other
Or... Just take everything in hell knows what order....
#11 Using an minimap does help too, possibly you should get one which shows mobs (Journeymap is a good one).
#12 If there are more than 5 zombies following you, don't try to aim for headshots.
#13 If zombies are surronding you from each side, the only way to survive is take your shotgun, spam it as you run over the horde of zombies.
