My heart skipped a beat as I saw the towering mountains before me. After all this time, I had finally gotten to the Far Lands.
I stared in awe at their structure - the edge was almost completely flat, and holes dotted the side. It was amazing. A single streaming waterfall fell down from the top and cascaded into a pool below.
Beside me, my companion pig nudged me. He seemed happy.
I reached down and patted his head. "We did well, Joker." Instinctively, my fingers curled around the diamond pickaxe I had made specifically for this moment. Finally, it was time.
We walked closer to the mountains, past grazing sheep and towering trees.
I ran my hand across the smooth stone surface, searching for a good place to start. A gleaming caught my eye.
The sharp end of the pick dug into the stone, sending bits flying.
Joker hid behind a pile of dirt, watching.
I kept going until I got a few good sized bots of gold out. Using the bits of stone I had mined out, I crafted a furnace. I shoved some logs into the bottom and placed the gold on the top rack to smelt.
While that was cooking, I continued searching for ores. I found a bit more gold, some iron, and plenty of coal.
By the time I got back to my forge, the sun was retiring on the horizon. I lit the coals to keep a light going, and prepared a small shack to sleep in.
Once I got the sleeping bag rolled out, I curled up inside and closed my eyes. Joker laid close to me. At that moment, I felt like I was the luckiest girl in the world.
A tapping on my door woke me up. I sat up a bit to quickly, making my head spin. Stumbling to the door, I opened it.
Something rammed into me and slammed me against the far wall. I staggered to my feet and pulled out a rusty iron sword.
The image of my opponent came into view. It was a man that had a blue shirt and jeans, with brown hair. His skin had many scrapes, and he looked worn out.
I looked him in the eyes, only to see emptiness. It filled my heart with sadness that ate away at my thoughts, but I couldn't tear my gaze away.
He spoke with a hypnotizing voice that wrapped around the edges of my brain. "You need to leave."
I nodded fiercely, afraid to move any other muscle, thinking he might kill me if I did.
With that, he disappeared. No sound, no display. In one second, he was there, and in the next, he was gone.
"We're leaving." My voice was scratchy as I began to pack up.
Joker shook his head sleepily. Had he not witnessed that? Was it just me? There was a possibility that it was just a creeper and I hit my head, causing me to hallucinate.
This thought left my mind as a whisper hit my ear.
"Hurry."
My head whipped around, searching for the source. The house was still empty.
I started out hurriedly. It didn't even cross my mind that I was leaving so many opportunities to get rich behind.
I returned to my town and resumed life as usual. No other villagers asked about my trip of my experiences, which I was glad for.
Years later, while I was sorting through my tools, I thought about going back to the Far Lands. My heart felt a sudden ache. Last time I went, Joker was still with us...
I quickly cleansed my mind of that thought and inspected an old diamond pick, like the one I had left by the mountains...
"Stop it!" My fingers entwined with my hair and I trembled. All of these memories for suddenly flooding back to me. The gold, Joker, the shack, and that man...
I couldn't stand it anymore. My mind emptied of all thoughts. As if my body was a machine, I grabbed the pickaxe and dashed out the door.
