The lake of the Forgotten

August 23, 1942
Long, long ago, in a land of mysteries, secrets lay scattered and unknown of the Forgotten. The people found it strange, because nobody really understood what or who "The Forgotten" even were, but they didn't think so for long, after one mysterious and creepy night.

It happened next to the lake a few kilometers away from the village. A group of archaeologists, about three of them, were exploring the area, only to find nothing but a dusty bone that probably came from a skeleton, until they noticed this lake
Nothing seemed to grow near it, the plants around it seemed dead, and animals avoided the lake. There weren't even any fish in it.
They recalled the strange riddle from the legend of the Forgotten;

Not so far away,
I hope you'll see it someday;
It's a secret that's lay hidden,
I bet it can't be forgotten,
How far have I gotten?

It's filled with something that keeps us alive,
However it's lifeless,
A beautiful sight,
You'll never be able to see it at night.

Now this made sense. Most lakes in this part of the woods couldn't be seen at night, and this lake? It was filled with water, water kept them alive. But anything that went close to this lake would die.
So this lake, was it the Forgotten? Had they made the greatest discovery yet? Was this what the prophecy foretold?
However, the archaeologists never returned to the village and were never heard from again. The villagers found this creepy, of course, so they refrained from going into the woods whenever they could. A few years after the archaeologists' disappearance, a hunter returned to the village screaming, saying that he found three rotting bodies near this creepy lake.
People believed that the archaeologists could have been eaten by lions, or by some other predator. The hunter also described that there might have been something kind of strange happening at the lake, and started to freak out. Now, of course, this freaked out the villagers just the same, as the hunter was soon taken to the hospital to have therapy.
"It's probably just a hallucination, the bodies might have been eaten by a lion." The Mayor would say, but the people wouldn't buy it. Soon enough, people started to move out from the village until no other person remained.

Up to this day, people still talk about the mystery of the Forgotten. Even the world's top scientists couldn't figure out what this meant. Scientists who visited the lake never came back, and soon enough, they stopped sending scientists to go to the lake.
However, one brave soul, and also a master detective, Kyuno Pycius insisted that he should go and check what happened to the scientists. His name was strange, and nobody knew the mystery behind it. He kept insisting that he should go, so of course, he packed his bags and left for the lake.
Scientists named the island the Forgotten Isles. On December 2, 1956, visitors were banned from visiting the island due to the many strange disappearances that happened on the island, but Kyuno was confident that he could solve this. He had to.
Upon his arrival, a horrible smell reached his nostrils. He covered his nose with his hands, immediately realizing what he was smelling; dead things. Dead people.
But who or what could have killed them? He got to his feet and stepped foot into the shore of the Forgotten Isles. The white sand was soft and birds chirped in the distance. The water was awkwardly warm, so he went away from it, remembering that the incident happened right next to a lake.
Kyuno grabbed his gear from his knapsack and began his journey.
As he was walking, he noticed a piece of paper buried in the sand. He crouched down on his knees and carefully fished the paper from the sand. It read;

Daytime on this island is beautiful and safe. We settled around a small clearing near the lake, ditched our stuff and headed for the tropical beach area. After studying it, we reached our clearing by six o' clock in the evening.

Then things started to get creepy.

Nighttime has always been my greatest fear. Being scared of the dark, I always carried a flashlight with me wherever I went. While sleeping, we heard a blood-curdling scream.

We've lost someone.

I quickly turned on my flashlight to see that one of us was missing. Another second later, my flashlight went out and someone else screamed.

My light turned on again, and another someone was missing. My flashlight began to flicker and heat up so I dropped it. It started to sink beneath the soil.

This time, I felt someone touch my shoulder. I turned around.
And it pulled me.

Whoever you are, whatever you're here for, turn around.
It's coming.

Whoever was writing seemed to be in a hurry. Poor guy.

Kyuno pocketed the journal entry and continued on his way. After about an hour, he reached a campsite in a clearing. This was where the scientists went camping.
He pushed past some bushes and found what he's been looking for.

The lake.

It seemed that no grass wanted to grow around it and there were no animals going near it. There wasn't even any fish in it. As he bent over to examine the lake, he felt someone tap his shoulder.

This was impossible, he was the only one sent to the lake, unless...

Before he could turn around to see who had tapped his shoulder, he was pushed into the lake.

He opened his eyes and looked around him, thinking of only one word as the smell of dead animal and human waste grew stronger.

"Oh my god..." Kyuno thought to himself.

What he found will change everything.

Pillars supported the huge, sloping roof and a massive citadel lay in the center of it all. Some creatures as dark as shadows stared at him, their eyes looking right through his soul. They looked sad, trapped, asking for help.

He could only think of one thing as his throat started to clog up.

It was the lake.

Can you extend this? It's REALLY nice so far, and a part two to finish it up would be nice. I don't like cliffhangers at the end, unless it's telling you to get the next book in the series.
