I am woken up from a hazy dream by the stomping of feet on the surrounding grass. I look around and am unsure of where I am or how I got here. I try to leave, but find myself surrounded walls. My hopeless endeavors to get around them fail. I ask another man where we are, but he ignores me. I try to smack him on the arm to get his attention, but it is apparent that there is some sort of forcefield preventing me from hitting him. I try to ask him again, but he shoves me aside and goes into a dark room in the ground. He begins to dig down, and I follow. He tells me to leave, I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. Countless times he repeats his message which is clearly full of malice. I decide it is best to leave him alone and search for someone else.
I am wondering on the surface, no sign of anyone else around me. I hear people on the other side of the walls and ask them who they are....no answer. I hear someone underneath me....I go to see who it is. It is one of the men who were stomping a minute ago. I ask him what this place is. He says it's The Walls. I ask him why we are here. He says to fight. I ask him why we would do that. He says to win....to be proven a worthy fighter. I ask him how we got here. He tells me that we were chosen. I ask him why they chose me, I add that I have never been in a fight before. He says that is why. This is the place to become a fighter.
I look around some more. I see a number in the distance. It is counting down. I realize what it is: a timer. It says 13. Thirteen minutes....until what? I see the two men taking out iron pickaxes. I ask them for one...they tell me to make one myself. I get a feeling of confusion. Why aren't they helping me? I go to a tree. I start to break the wood. Twelve minutes left. I create a pickaxe out of wood. I break stone and make a pickaxe out of it. Eleven minutes. I try to find iron....nothing. Ten minutes. I find 3 iron and make a pickaxe out of it. Nine minutes. I find more iron. Enough for a helmet. I make one and put it on. Eight minutes. I look at the clock with confusion...where had the time gone? I slip into a daydream of being at home with my dog, watching television. I wake up and am still looking at the clock. Six minutes. I try to find diamonds. No luck. Five minutes. I settle for iron. I find enough iron to make a chest plate. Four minutes. I find a secret chest containing arrows and fire charges. Three minutes. I realize I do not yet have a sword. I attempt one last time to get one of the men to help me...I ask for a sword. They show no empathy. They give me nothing. Two minutes. I can't find any more iron. I make a stone sword. I have arrows....no bow. I look for string. I find cobwebs in a tree. I make them into string....create a bow. One minute. I look at the clock with frustration. I'm not ready for whatever is going to happen. I try to find more iron....I find nothing. I hear a buzzer. Thirty seconds until....until what? I get lost in my thoughts...15 seconds. I hear an announcer's voice...I flinch. I listen closely to what the announcer is saying. I can't hear at first but it becomes clear: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1..........
