There has always been a blog trend with a clear message: "Being a girl in a video game is so hard!" This motto is supported by the facts that people don't recognize, respect, or ignore girls on servers. Yet, they have to say "Minecraft" in the title. Why? There is nothing related between people having 2 X-chromosomes and a game involving blocks. This blog will help prove 2 things: Minecraft isn't to blame, nor is it even involved and gender isn't that much of a big deal in video games anyway. I'm in no way being sexist, feminist, or masculine in any way. Lets begin:

Minecraft has nothing to do with anything gender related.

  • There is no gender in any mobs. Chickens, cows, pigs, sheep, and villagers are all completely sexless, being able to mate with any mature member of their species.
  • The game has no masculine or feminine biases. Sure, there are swords and monsters, but also flowers and dye-able clothes. The games music, font, and every other aspect is appealing towards any and all sexual orientations.
  • You make the difference. The player models are all the same, with you, the player, making or downloading skins. Sure the skins look like girls or guys, but that's your fault. A girl can get a masculine skin and be mistaken for a boy, the same goes for a guy posing as a girl. You create your identity in a game, being who-ever you want to be. So being ridiculed can be your fault.

Gender isn't that much of a big deal in video games anyway.

  • A video game is a virtual experience that which you make yourself. Your experience could be brutal or pleasing, yet either way you made it that way yourself. When it comes to gender, look at what I mentioned above. You can be whoever you want to be in a game, and that is what gets you playing in the first place.
  • If a person treats you due to your honest gender, know that whatever he says can't hurt you. The text is just a bunch of pixels arranged for you to read them. So don't worry about your gender being something others will insult you for.

  • Don't look at gender like it is your identity. Gender doesn't make a person, the chemicals intoxicating your brain do. Sure, be who-ever you want, just don't make them another person, nor let them be you yourself. You are the person you want to be, no matter what people say against it, and video games are an outlet for you to be that person. But, don't forget the you in reality, for if you focus to much on your game identity, then your real identity will never be what you want it to be.

I hope that helps people understand that they are who they are in their minds and imaginations, and video games bring those identities to life. And if you feel burdened by it, it isn't who you want to be in the first place.

Dude, the pop reel is a crazy thing. There has been server help requests, dumb fanfiction, and lord knows what else on the front page.

This is just a milked topic. The reason these girls keep getting attention is because they keep making stupid pointless "Girls should be treated better" blogs.

This isn't one of those. This blog is about how people should not even care about gender at all.

Let me take what you've said, add a lot more to it, and simplify the whole thing. The internet is the true great equalizer. No matter who you are or where you came from, you're just you. Your gender, age, sexual orientation, physical appearance - none of it matters here. You are who you are, and nobody can judge you for anything except for who you are. It doesn't really matter who you are. You're a username and you're a person, and that's all that should matter.

But, still don't let it take over your life. You can be a level 90 Grand-master Builder, and still live in your parent's basement.
