If you are on a faction server and wanna defend from Raiders/TNT Cannons coat your base in iron bars I have tested it many times over it really helps a lot especially because it costs a lot less than obsidian and it looks BAU5 you should also hide your chests underground and leave decoy chests on the surface filled with stone/wood tools redstone and cobblestone hope this helps :-)
