MABROCESSI: Attendant, my milk!
[ATTENDANT 1 gives MABROCESSI a bucket of milk]
MABROCESSI: If I was King,
Thou would be a diamond knight
who would wear armour – shiny as a ring!
But I have been denied my birthright
ATTENDANT 1: Aye, my lord.
MABROCESSI: Aye, I’ll take your eye
if you darn breath a word before the act
is done.
ATTENDANT 2: Aye, my lord.
[Enters CREEPERS]
MABROCESSI: The exploding devils appear!
Did they forsee my mood
or did they just come to cause fear
and to see my brood?
CREEPER 1: Alas, poor prince,
why do you brood?
when you could eat sweet mince
by mistaking your brother for food?
MABROCESSI: To kill a king or to kill kin
on my own would be a folly!
But with thee, I would hide my sin!
Speak, Cretins – have you a name?
CREEPER 2: We name not for the humans
whose hearts discolour from satan to black
and disappear in the darkest of the ka-booms!
Thus, call us Legion – for we are numerous.
CREEPER I: Aye!
MABROCESSI: (To attendants)
Leave me, for you must go.
Go to the kingship upon the hour;
tell him we bested a beast.
for in the following one, Lo!
He shall be pushing flowers!
Then, we shall drink and kill and feast!
[Exeunt ATTENDANTS]
(ad omnes):
Hunting party, ready your bows!
For the beast we have hunted is not the true one!
The king may wear a helm made of gold
but the grass shall be as red as a rose!
CREEPER 1: The sweet sizzle of spleen
doth not compare to that of grass –
green dirt blown to brown
where the king shall lay, and another we shall crown!
[Exeunt all]
