Just some ideas for torches and how they could be improved. (In my opinion)
1. When you hold a torch, it lights up while in your hand (would also work for Glowstone)
Pros:
1. You would only need 1 torch to easily see through caves
2. Friends could follow you if they don't have any torches available
3. Easier to see ores without getting distracted by putting torches down
Cons:
1. If you only have 1 torch, when you change to your pick, the torch light would go out
2. Might create bugs on multiplayer servers
3. People might forget to place torches behind them to find their way back
2. When you drop a torch, the item on the floor will also light up
Pros and cons are pretty much the same.
3. Alternate ways of making torches (stick and Glowdust, etc)
Pros:
1. If someone doesn't have Coal available (Like in a flat-land survival or something)
2. Other uses for Glowdust.
3. Could supply a different color of light (for creative people)
Cons:
1. People might not like the idea/think that it doesn't make sense
2. Could cause some torch-making abuse, because of the easy to gather items.
3. Would make Coal less use-full.
4. Different color torches (Put a torch and a colored dye in the crafting table)
Pros:
1. Dance floors
2. Creative people
3. Different varieties of torches
Cons:
1. May cause some seizures :P
