Hai! This is my first tutorial of '[TUT] : Everything will be simple and easy!' series. This tutorial teaches you how to replace minecraft sky in GIMP. Let's get started!
1st step: Google a nice sky image and download it. (search for HDR skies,they're sexy)

Click on "Larger than..." and select a higher number than your minecraft screenshot resolution is (2 MP is perfect for Full HD monitors.
2nd step: Open your image with your image explorer and right-click the sky image,then select "copy" and close it.
3rd step: Open GIMP and drag your Minecraft screenshot to the window.
4rd step: Magic wands! Click on the select wand and click everywhere you want to select. Same with delete wand.

5th step: Save that thing!

Click on Export,make sure the format is .jpg or .jpeg or .png and click on Export,then click on Export again. :)
