During this tutorial we are going to shade a Henry Jones Sr. skin (I don't really know why I coosed Henry Jones Jr. as presentation image :$ )

At first you have to open your skin with paint.net. Then download the prelight template and place it anywhere you want (f.e. into Downloads). After that you have to choose the option Layers-> Import from file and locate the template

then press F4 to edit the layer attributes and set the layer blending mode to multiply and you are done

I hope this tutorial helped you to increase the quality of your skins

This is the way to shade your skins the same way every time. But if you really want people to like your skins then you have to use different shading methods every time and experiment a little(maybe a lot if you want to). But if you have all of your skins shaded the same way people will see the same thing every time even though you might have made an old guy first and then you made a wizard with robes of similar looking-ness to the old guy's trench coat then people will not think they will find anything different than what you already posted and so they will probably not visit your page as often because they know that they will see the same thing.

I believe using paint.net to try to make a shaded skin is your first and major problem. Gimp, photoshop, hell, even those sites with a 3d render model that you paint onto is better.
