INTRO:
Have you been on the server page lately? You may notice many servers that are uploaded and have no pictures, and sound pretty awful to play on. To me this is spam so if you are uploading a server, think twice.
BUKKIT, IT DOESNT MAKE YOU COOL:
Oh, I remember the first time a made a Bukkit server... I thought it would be instantly popular... how wrong I was. Bukkit servers are easy to make so dont go around bragging like I did at first. Bukkit doesn't make you cool.
PVP AND FACTIONS:
PvP is probably the most common kind of server in the Minecraft universe. Factions too. When you make these kinds of servers think ahead. What makes your server different from the rest? Maybe a custom map? Maybe nice staff? Maybe a cool spawn area? What ever it is, make it special.
HAMACHI:
Hamachi is a very good application, however, it is not good for making a good server. I like to use Hamachi to play with my friends on SMP, but I dont use it for my server. Hamachi is difficult to use for some people, so if Hamachi is needed to join a server it may discourage people from joining.
UPLOADING YOU SERVER TO PLANET MINECRAFT:
Add pictures, videos, and maybe something else. If the server appears cool people will join.
ONE LAST STATEMENT:
Servers are tricky... people can hate on them and such... dont make a server unless you are 100% sure it will be successful.
