Prepare for a half-rant

Ok..... lately I've been hearing about people getting "noticed" or "popular" on planet minecraft. Some of these people are just being optimistic; they get a diamond and think that they are the best person on planet minecraft. I'll admit, when I started here, I was one of those people. I thought that levels mattered. They don't. Being a high level does NOT make anyone more popular than you.

But what Is "popular" on this site? Sure, the level system aids in judging how well someone has done in the past, and whether it is worth looking forward to other stuff they put out, but in the end, it boils down to people competing for a higher level, a pointless goal. If you upload 30 skins in a week and get to level 8, that's great. I would be happy as well, but that was probably mostly due to people who click on every skin on the list. If you can upload 30 skins in a week, you are probably not making a quality skin, and your experience is getting accumulated by views. However, in my mind, this is not going to make you "popular". This makes you able to crank out half-quality skins that people mindless click on. I'm sure some amazing people out there can make a ton of quality skins very quickly, as in once per day, but the majority of people will use skins they put about 10 minutes of work into. Not popular in this case; not many people are going to look for a while and appreciate the skin. Moral of this part of the story: cranking out content is not going to make you popular. You probably know what I'm going to say, but PUTTING OUT QUALITY CONTENT IS WHAT WOULD MAKE SOMEONE "popular". At least for me. I might loose a bit of flow in my writing here, my adobe updater is yelling at me.

This is what it boils down to for me. Quality, not quantity. I like to put out one quality project every two weeks or so(this is what happens on rare occasions, I've been slacking lately). Putting out a ton of stuff to simply level up is not going to make you popular. In fact, it will make you seem desperate. The level system is almost like drug addiction. Once you level up once, you never want to stop. Watching that little EXP bar move up is the most gratifying thing in the world, and I will admit, I love watching it crawl up as well. The level system infringes on goals though. If the goal was to make a quality project, plenty of times it will end up getting rushed during upload just to see the level bar go up a little. However, if you really want to play with the level system, take your time. Upload it with quality, and see how fast the level bar goes up. Getting simply "noticed" implies that you have gotten a few views from the project you uploaded in the past few minutes. Getting "popular" is taking your time with every project, and having the results pay off much more than with rushed content.

I'm drifting. Let me make my point and end this post. Getting "noticed" is fine for your first few uploads to the site. It is a good thing. Getting "noticed" after 10 projects is not really a good thing to be saying. If you are still only getting a few views or diamonds on an upload at this point, try spending a bit more time making the content more focused on quality. Take some screenshots. Edit them. Try new things. In the end, that is what people want to see. New things. If everything on this site was the same thing, it would have gotten boring AGES ago.

I'm drifting within a drift now, this is bad. Just a little more. So here is what "popular" is to me. Getting something on the popular reel is a start. Getting subscribers who actually check on your page periodicly. Getting to a higher level means nothing to popularity. Look at xyvlon. He was level 3, and the next day, he was level 20. He put out a quality project, with professional editing. I use the level jump to measure how much he was seen and appreciated during this time. In fact, that is the only way I use the level system. Judging quality of work.

So put out quality! Not quantity! Get "popular"! Not "noticed"!

One more thing. Don't feel sorry for yourself and pretend to beat up on your own projects to get attention. No one likes that. Just wanted to put that out there.

And for all of you who read this and understood my point,

Stay Saxxy

I'm glad somebody notices this. As far as exp goes, if somebody likes my stuff, wonderful, if they don't, that's okay too. And if I see that I leveled up, I give an unenthusiastic "that's nice" check my classes, the whole shabang, and upload whatever I finish during the day like I usually do.
