A Datapack that brings the Staffs from the Alan Becker universe to Minecraft.
There are 47 different Staffs, which can all be created by holding the base Empty Staff, the block of your choosing in your offhand, and sneaking.
To disconnect any Staff, just look up, sneak, and right click. This will disconnect your Staff to its dedicated block and the base Empty Staff.
Each Staff has its own abilities or features, and so I recommend going through all of them to get the full experience.
Things to know:
When first entering a world, make sure to do /reload. This should fabricate all the necessary data required and should also help fix any issues you face.
If you encounter a issue that can't be fixed by just reloading, please tell me, as I want to make this as bug free as I can.
If you want to get all the Staffs in the game, run "/function abstaff:staffs" and "/function abstaff:staffs2". These will give you all the Staffs I have made, in the same order as above, so you can also easily find them.
If you don't want all the Staffs, but want their corresponding blocks, instead run "/function abstaff:blocks". This will give you all the blocks relating to all the Staffs, also in the same order as above.
Lastly, if you just want the Empty Staff, run "/function abstaff:empty". This will give you an Empty Staff, the basis to every Staff.
There are Advancements for collecting every Staff, use this to know which ones you need to get next!
I have would like to have included the ability to craft the Staff in survival, but trying to make it was very difficult for some reason, and it repeatedly stopped working for no reason. Thus, I don't want to give a non-working feature to y'all. Everything you get much be top quality.
Like ItzDarky said, this Datapack was made for 1.21.4. So any worlds before this will not work at all. It may still work for future versions, but if things start breaking please tell me so I can update it for the modern game.
Thanks for downloading my Datapack, I hope you enjoy all the different features I made, if you have any ideas or recommendations for anything, feel free to comment them below. Please be respectful and kind, as this is my first time modding anything and I had absolutely no experience with anything relating to this project.

Target Staffs
These Staffs do something where you are looking, similar to the Block Staffs, but not always placing their blocks there.
Snow Staff
Spawns Snowballs where you are looking. Totally Useful!
Dispenser Staff
Spawns an Arrow where you are looking. Has a lot longer range than most Staffs.
Wither Staff
Spawns one of the Wither's Black Projectiles where you are looking. These destroy terrain and give the Withering effect.
Dripstone Staff
Creates a small spike of dripstone where you are looking. Depending on if you look on the floor it will create a spike going up, but if you look on a roof or wall it will create a dripstone spike facing down that then falls on any unsuspecting targets below.
Lightning Staff
Creates Lightning Bolts where you are looking. You also gain some debuffs to counter this overpowered weapon.
Campfire Staff
Spawns Fire where you are looking. Good for cooking food.
Mushroom Staff
Spawns a small Mushroom wall. Good for quick defense or to build with.
Amethyst Staff
Destroys and Replaces the block you are looking at with an Amethyst block. A bit inaccurate, but still very helpful.
Quartz Staff
Creates a 3x3 platform of Quartz where you are looking. Can be used to easily go up or create a staircase.
Spawner Staff
Spawns Mobs where you are looking. By Sneaking when you click, you cycle through the different mob options. The cycle goes: Zombie, Iron Golem, Skeleton, Creeper, Wolf, and Creaking.

Weapon Staffs
All of these Staffs are made to be used to attack, each one gradually dealing more damage, but with the cost of slower movement.
Bell Staff
Deals 5 Hearts. The same damage as a Stone Sword. It also has a good amount of knockback. Can also be used to create a bell sound.
Emerald Staff
Deals 6 Hearts. The same damage as an Iron Sword.
Diamond Staff
Deals 8 Hearts. The same damage as a Netherite Sword.
Obsidian Staff
Deals 10 Hearts. The same damage as a Netherite Axe.
Netherite Staff
Deals MASSIVE Knockback.
Bedrock Staff
Instant Kill for nearly everything. Incredibly overpowered, which is fine because it is normally unobtainable.

Deals 6 Hearts. The same damage as an Iron Sword.

Ability Staffs
These Staffs all do something interesting when activated. Simple!
Lapis Staff
Using this gives you Levitation and some slow falling. This allows you to fly and return safely!
TNT Staff
Using this spawns a TNT 15 blocks in front of you.
Crafting Staff
Using this creates a Crafting Table on your feet. Can also be used to parkour!
Furnace Staff
Using this cooks any raw items into their smelted / cooked counterparts.
Sculk Staff
Using this gives you Super Speed! But only for a short time, so you have to hold it constantly to keep the speed.
Piston Staff
Using this gives you large amounts of jump boost, and when it is in your main hand, it also lowers your fall damage taken by a lot. It also allows you to reach father, and has a bit of knockback.
Potion Staff
Using this gives entities within a radius bad potion effects, but sneaking while using it gives you and anything within 3 blocks good effects.
Portal Staff
Using this also teleports you a few blocks forward. See a wall in your way, not a problem!
Herobrine Staff
Using this both teleports you forward, but also gives you levitation. Now you can fly much easier! This Staff is interesting to obtain. Instead of it having a dedicated block, you instead have to get struck by lightning holding the Steve Staff.
Hive Staff
Using this spawns 5 Bees! Yipbee!
Cauldron Staff
Using this clears any Potion Effects from you and anyone within a 10 block radius. Now if you or a friend has bad effects you can remove it easily!
Enchanting Staff
Using this enchants any items you or anyone nearby is holding. But because the enchant command is odd, any item you want enchanted needs to be in your main hand, thus, if you want to enchant something yourself, you need to have the staff in your offhand.
Bookshelf Staff
Using this spawns 10 arrows in front of you in a line. Also spammable!
Lapis Staff
Using this gives you Levitation and some slow falling. This allows you to fly and return safely!
TNT Staff
Using this spawns a TNT 15 blocks in front of you.
Crafting Staff
Using this creates a Crafting Table on your feet. Can also be used to parkour!

Bookshelf Staff
Using this spawns 10 arrows in front of you in a line. Also spammable!
Unique Staffs
These are all the rests of the Staffs. Most are unique from all the other categories.
Grindstone Staff
Holding this Staff gives you Haste. Simple, but effective!
Netherrack Staff
Using this Staff shoots out 10 Netherrack blocks in the direction you are looking. Any entities inside it get damaged, and if you look down and sneak you push yourself upwards, taking a bit of damage yourself in doing so.
Barrier Staff
Using this Staff shoots out 5 Barrier blocks in the direction you are looking. It will replace any blocks it comes in contact with. Sneaking while using this staff will instead remove any Barrier blocks nearby, to help clean up any mess you may have created. Slightly overpowered, which should be fine since you can't normally obtain Barriers in survival.
Iron Staff
Using this Staff shoots out 10 Iron Bars in the direction you are looking. Also damages entities inside the attack. Can also boost you upwards if you look down, sneak, and right click.
Granite Staff
Using this Staff will place a Granite Block 3 blocks in front of where you are looking. This means you can parkour or create bridges easy with this. Sneaking while using this will also function like the Block Staffs, to help you get higher up before you start parkouring or building.
Anvil Staff
Having this Staff anywhere in your inventory will prevent you from moving or jumping. If this is annoying, you can increase your "disableanvil" score. The higher you increase it, more features will be re-enabled when having this Staff. I personally like it at just Level 1.
Bone Staff
Using this Staff will almost function exactly like a bonemeal would. Standing nearby to any crop will increase its age, standing very close to any tree and it will grow, standing on any 2x2 tree and it will grow, standing on mangrove leaves or rooted dirt will grow their plants underneath, and other similar growths will work. The only features that don't work are the ones that can happen infinitely, like bamboo or large dripleaf. I can fix this, so I'd like to know if people are interested in things like this.
Ice Staff
Using this Staff will encase any nearby entities within ice boxes. The size of the box depends on the size of the entity, including the Wither, Ghast, and any other nearby Players. My brother made this Staff, and I just stole it and modified it, so thanks to him for letting me steal it.
Redstone Staff
Using this creates a 10 block long laser! Any entities inside of it takes large amounts of damage, and it can also activate observers.
Command Block Staff
Using this activates whatever ability you have selected. There are 9 different abilities you can cycle through by pressing "f" or whatever button is your offhand button. Sneaking while doing it cycles backwards. However, because of this way of detection, any items in your offhand when you swap will be deleted. So be very careful when handling this Staff.

Command Block Abilities
The first 4 abilities are all block placing ones. You can select the block you will place by Sneak-Right-Clicking. The three blocks you can place is Cobblestone, Obsidian, and Air. The reason there is only these three is so you can easily swap between them, and won't have to cycle through 10 different blocks just because you made a mistake.
#1: Block Placing (Target)
This Ability just places a block where you are looking, with a range up to 20 blocks.
#2: Block Placing (Shoot)
This Ability shoots 10 blocks in front of you, similarly to the Netherrack Staff. It also deals damage and by looking down you get pushed upwards, just like the Netherrack Staff.
#3: Block Placing (Platform)
This Ability just places a block underneath you. Really fun to jump around with!
#4: Block Placing (Wall)
This Ability places a 3x3 wall 2 blocks in front of where you are looking. Mainly used as a protective shield, it can also be used to build platforms or roofs.
#5: Force Hold
This Ability holds the nearest entity in front of you, allowing you to either move it wherever you are looking or push it farther from you by sneaking. You can bring it closer by looking upwards.
#6: Laser
This Ability creates a 10 block long laser that hurts any entities in it.
#7: Summon Fireball
This Ability simply just summons a fireball in front of you. You do need to hit it for it to move, but this does mean you can target your enemies easier with it.
#8: Give Effects
This Ability will give effects to entities depending on if you are sneaking or not. If not sneaking, it will give the nearest entity within 10 blocks negative effects. You will need to activate it multiple times if you want to give all the effects though. Similarly, by sneaking, you give positive effects to the furthest entity within 3 blocks. You also do need to activate it multiple times if you want to get all the effects. The positive effects last for 3 minutes while the negative ones only last for 30 seconds, with the exception of the final effect.
#9: Bubble Shield
This Ability creates a small shield around you that repels entities and kills projectiles. It isn't perfect, especially from above, but it is still helpful and fun to play with.
