What is this?
This is a small quality of life datapack introducing a new mechanic that should be in the base game. In vanilla when you hold damaged items with mending you don't gain experience and instead the items gain 2 durability per 1 experience point. This datapack lets you sacrifice stored experience points for durability.
How does it work?
Sneak while holding a mending item in your main hand. This should take 1 experience point and give 2 durability to your item every tick.
Note: Your item durability is set to 0 for a very short time so if you use it while repairing you may lose it! This also causes minor flickering of the durability bar while repairing for a long time.
How compatible is it?
It should work for vanilla without any dependencies. I've made it work for multiplayer, but it's tested only on 1.19 and not 1.19.x. I will make sure to listen to any feedback related to improving the compatibility of this datapack because it's an abstract feature and I want it to work for anything. It's meant to work for any gamemode especially survival.
Features
Mend held items.
Toggle the showing of a message which appears every time you mend a held item.
Future plans
I want to add experimental features such as multipliers to how much durability you get, how fast the repairing works and a customizable delay so you can mend once and wait until it starts looping fast. Make it work with your offhand and all armor slots. Possibly make it compatible with Inventorio. Maybe add Mending II which will give 3 or 4 durability per 1 experience point and overrides vanilla 2 durability per 1 experience point on any equipped item that has such enchantment (Mending is OP so I may not add this).
