An example of all the horrible datapacks with 20k views around on this website.

Waiting for PMC to valorise datapacks created with commitment, time, creativity and datapack knowledge by real Datapack Creators.

"Waiting for PMC to valorise datapacks created with commitment, time, creativity and datapack knowledge by real Datapack Creators."

I really don't like this sentiment, for a few reasons.

                    1) Who is there to choose the criteria by which one should judge these datapacks? Should it just be about complexity? But then, there are a lot of datapacks, which might, for example, just have a cool idea, even if the execution is simple.

                    2) The fact that a datapack gets a lot of views/diamonds/downloads/whatever means that people do want to see it. Even if you think they are bad.

                    3) What do you even mean by "PMC valorising datapacks created with commitment, time, creativity and datapack knowledge by real Datapack Creators"? Do you mean PMC should actually not allow datapacks which 'take less effort'? Or are you more so referring to the community? And more so, what do you mean by 'real Datapack Creators'? It feels really subjective, and, not to sound overly rude, kinda selfish coming from you (assuming that you see yourself as a 'Real Datapacker', which, from the tone of this whole post, sure sounds like it)

                    4) Keep in mind, a lot of these 'horrible' datapacks are made by people who are new to making them. While they may not be the best, just calling them bad won't change anything, besides making people feel bad. Failing is the first step to succes.

While I myself may not like having my own datapacks, which I sometimes spend quite a while on, overshadowed by datapacks which most likely took less time to make, it really ain't that big of a deal.

I've never said datapacks doing things like that should not exist.

But, would you put skins and texture packs in the same section? No, you wouldn't. I hope.

The first changes only one thing, the second changes everything.

Same works for a lot of datapacks, overshadowed by the presence of things that do much less and are created in less time.

For example, datapacks with only one commands or things like: "when you jump you get a diamond", "every 50 seconds a polar bears spawns on you". Would you put them on the same level as Undermagic or enormous datapacks like that?

Maybe you would, maybe not. I, personally, wouldn't. I see a big difference between "Datapack Creators" and "People who know a bit commands and how to put them in a datapack".

Maybe I'm selfish if I call myself a datapack creator, but I don't spend hours and hours creating objectively complex and functioning things, without any remuneration, and also say that I don't define myself as a datapack creator. It would be lying in the name of humility.

Think about that. Small "datapacks" like this one can exist, but don't consider them like big datapacks adding things like they are mods.

The difference between skins and texture packs is bigger than the one present between different datapcaks. Keep in mind, with the seconds one (at least it sounds like it) you're comparing more so quality, and with the first one, quantity. So the comparison isn't exactly the best imo.

Furthermore, the problem is still, that there would be someone who would have to judge which datapack is, essentialy, lesser.

While one could maybe divide them by objective criteria, i. e. seperating recipe only datapacks from others, but that wouldn't exactly fix the issue.

Also, again, sorry if the remark about selfishness was a bit rude, it's just the the tone of your whole post combined with this made it feel (to me, atleast) like a "Holier than thou" kinda thing.

I think that, at least at the moment, it's better in the grand scale of things that we get more datapacks, considering they're still not that big, so any new potential datapacker is welcome, in my opinion. Categorizing those small datapacks seperately would (imo) make them feel lesser, and by extension, their creators, possibly demotivation them.

Keep in mind, there are also some mods (on pmc, for example) which aren't great. Ones which, compared with bigger ones, are just bad. And they aren't categorized seperately either. Of course, it isn't as big of a problem with mods, due to the fact that they're more complicated, and have less tools which you can use to make the process easier, so the barrier of entry is much higher.

Overall, I think the main problem is still deciding how exactly would one seperate/classify these datapacks.

I think they could make something like a quality certification, after a review from at least 3 members of the staff or high-level users choosed as judges for a specific field.

Well, how would that be structured then?

One could, for example, have a sort-of 'Featured' system, where a set amount of Datapacks would be chosen, and they would appear in a section above the rest of datapacks (Possibly replacing/adding to the Popular Datapacks section)

Again, It's just mostly that I fear it could discourage people from creating, and I don't thint that is something which would be good for the Datapack community.

I can't see why it should discourage people from creating. Have a goal (like want your datapack on the featured section) is something good for creating. For example Datapack Center has the featured system I said. I had that goal, and achieved that.

Anyway, are you the Magneter on Minecraft Datapacks?
