seeing as the nether gold ore only gives nuggets do you think you could make it use those instead

No, because it drops about 3 - 5 nuggets and you would only put one to make the recipe :)

ok but it takes 9 nuggets to make an ingot, so you'd just be losing some unless you had fortune
