This is a simple death chest datapack for 1.16. Automatically enables keepInventory. When any player dies, their inventory items (including armor and offhand) will be placed in 2 chests where they died, and their inventory will be cleared. I created this for a realm my friends play but figured I'd post it here as well in case anybody finds it useful.

Planned features:
  • Add a single-use "DeathChest Locator" item that displays the coords of your last DeathChest.

Considerations before you install this:
  • Experience will be kept upon death
  • If you try to pick up a DeathChest (or, well, any item named "DeathChest"), it will automatically be cleared from your inventory
  • You can break any block by dying next to it, since the second chest is always placed 1 X positive to your death spot
