This is an entry for Chimerabot's Boisterous Bossfights contest! Be sure to check it out here! https://www.planetminecraft.com/forums/pmc/events/boisterous-bossfights-datapack-contest-639996/
NOTE: This datapack is in beta, and is still undergoing massive changes! As such it may not be as compatible with other datapacks just yet, please keep this in mind!
Do you like dragons, but get tired of fighting the same old EnderDragon every time? Well this is the datapack for you! Introducing my fancy dragons! The fiercest snakelike chinese dragons of them all!
The dragons come in 16 different color variants! Each color does something a little bit different! For example, there is an ice dragon that breaths out an icy blue flame, and spawns strays, while its cyan cousin will occasionally move really fast! You can see all of the differing variants, and what they do in the spoiler below:
How do you summon it?
I'm glad you asked, and it couldn't be simpler! Simply put two soul sand blocks side by side with a dragon head on the end of it, then put an item frame on top of the central soul sand block with an elytra inside(shown in the pictures above!). He will then spawn into your world, and start wreaking havoc everywhere!
Wait, what about my elytra?
No worries! If you defeat the dragon, you will get it back in an unbreakable form! :)
Anything else I should know?
Yes there is actually! Spawn the dragon far away from anything important. They're like the Wither in that they can be very destructive!
I also recommend bringing plenty of golden apples(doesn't have to be notch apples), a sword, bow/arrows, some building blocks if you need to escape, and some armor with the protection enchantment on it.
Sounds great! How do I install the datapack?
Enjoy! :)

1.18.2 & Bugfix update! : by SUPERIONtheKnight 03/05/2022 5:15:37 amMar 5th, 2022
Datapack is updated for 1.18.2!
Glow item frames can now also be used to spawn dragons instead of just normal item frames.
Severe lag hopefully fixed.
Possible known bug: Dragons seem to randomly die when relogging in singleplayer(unknown if this affects multiplayer). It's possible I fixed this bug with this release, although I have my doubts as it seems to occur randomly. If not already fixed, I will fix this one soon
I was hoping to put out more for this update, but unfortunately a rather severe bug was found that caused the game to lag quite a lot. Hopefully this update should fix that issue. If it's not fixed, I will continue putting out minor updates until it is fixed(although they will be so small, that it won't be worth updating this log). Newer content will be released when it's ready! :)

I don't know French, so I'm responding with Google translate. :)
I actually was asked about this before. It shouldn't be too difficult to add, I would likely give the dragon some form of right-click capability for this to work. If I were to do this, then you would likely be able to ride the dragon as a reward for beating them. I would very much like to get around to this, and probably will at some point in the future. I just need to find the time to do so. :)
So yes, I probably will add this feature whenever I get some more free time to work on it. In fact, I have had ideas to merge this datapack into another one I'm planning, but that's a long ways off from now.
Appreciate your interest in my datapack, and thanks for the compliment! :)
I'll try and work on it some throughout the week. Thanks for taking interest in my datapack! :)
If it doesn't work for you for whatever reason, let me know with a PM and a short description of what's going on, and I'll try to figure it out. :)
