The hills are alive with the sound of iron! This one was also suggested to me by blurryface on the VanillaTweaks Discord. Like the diamond geode pack, we're back to some different shenanigans to make this one unique. You're gonna have to channel your inner dwarf for this one (or not, you do whatever you want).

While I did not originally plan to make this ever, I was encouraged to see it as a form of variating the sources of iron. Now the large iron veins aren't so lonely.

These geodes are made up of an inner layer of raw iron blocks, then a middle layer of calcite, and finally an outer layer of tuff. The combination of those last two layers sounds familiar..

    Before reading the content below:
There are two different types of iron geodes in this pack. One has the average sizes like that of amethyst geodes, and can be found practically at all heights. The second one has smaller than average sizes, but still has quite an amount of iron.

    Where to find them:
These geodes can be found in a whopping seven biomes:

    Frozen Peaks
    Jagged Peaks
    Stony Peaks
    Snowy Slopes
    Grove
    Windswept Hills
    Windswept Gravelly Hills

In the first five, it is possible to find iron geodes at the following height ranges:

    y-16 to y56
    y84 to y216

In the two windswept biomes listed above, iron geodes can be found anywhere above sea level (y63). However, there is a catch. In these biomes, the geodes are found close to surfaces; enough to spot them on the surface. However, these are ultra rare, and may take tens of thousands of blocks of traveling to find. In addition, they are smaller on average.

Either way, you might be lucky enough to find geodes sticking out from the mountains in any of the biomes!

    Is this balanced?
Honestly, this may yet be the most overpowered geode pack I have made. There is so much iron to be extracted and refined from these geodes (like, chests full), but I did not want to make them so incredibly rare like my Ancient Reserves pack. However, for the distributed general copy, I made them just rare enough that it will require thousands of blocks of traveling, and then a long time mining. Sometimes they spawn exposed, but not very commonly. Either way, if you managed to find one, I believe you earned it.

Overall, the slightly lower rarity appears to be counterbalanced by the unstable biome layout of mountainous biomes. So, good luck!

    Want to change the rarity?
Navigate to ~/Iron Geodes/data/tbm_iron_deposits/worldgen/placed_feature, then you will see three separate files. The lower and upper geode files are practically the same configured_feature, and you may adjust the "chance" value (higher being more rare; i.e. 1 / chance).

The third file, the windswept_iron_geode, uses the "count" modifier instead of the typical "rarity_filter." This means that when you increase the value, it will become more common. I have seen that raising the value to something around 10 will cause multiple geodes to spawn near each other on the windswept surfaces.

    The geological inspiration:
I have previously read that geodes in real life can be found more frequently in mountains, and they sometimes stick out of the ground and the mountains' stone walls. This is what inspired me to allow some of the geodes to stick out, especially in the windswept biomes. The idea is that since the mountains experience such a unique combination of factors of erosion, these geodes might just become exposed in the process. The windswept biomes are highly eroded, thus the geodes are often exposed and smaller.
CreditThanks again to @blrryfacee for suggesting both copper and iron geodes.

    Update #1 on June 30th, 2023. : by TheBrewingMiner 07/30/2023 3:59:28 pmJul 30th, 2023

    Fixes
    • Fixed an issue causing the pack to fail to validate in versions 1.19.0 - 1.19.3 (Thanks to Mabra_ for bringing it to my attention)
    Changes
    • Increased the rarity of iron geodes found above y84 in the mountainous biomes.
    • Increased the rarity of windswept iron geodes.
    • Reduced the average size of windswept iron geodes.
    • Windswept iron geodes now have stone and iron ore spawn as the inner_placements instead of more raw iron blocks.
