Lockable Chests

EDIT: This datapack is old and won't receive any further update. It does have plenty of bugs in newer versions of minecraft, and isn't 100% safe

I'm developing a better version of this datapack without exploits and bugs, with better looking and easier to use, I'll put the link here after be done.

I'v released an redesigned version of this datapack to 1.16

I'm happy to announce a true Lockable Chest, where you create a key using a Writable Book and lock your chest.

Created a Add-On to that which allows you to sell items in locked chests, check it out

PS: Video Tutorial is from Version 1.0, It's not the latest version and the way you Lock your chest changed a bit

How to use:
1. Get a Writable Book, then type at first page #Lock# then at second page type your "chest password" then Hit Done (Necessaryly click Done before signing up)
2. Sign your Book then just place your book at last slot of your chest (I recomend you to do a copy before, is better don't live your chest without keys)

That datapack allows any player to lock the chests in minecraft vanilla survival mode.
Also Allows anyone in creative get a Universal Key, following the steps of a normal key but instead of #Lock# do #UniversalKey#

Features:

1. Players can Lock Chests.

2. Creative Players can create Universal keys to Chests

3. Players can't break protected chests manually

4. If a protected chest breaks, it will warn on chat, saying who's the book author as he's owner

5. Compatibility to my Player Shops datapack

6. Works with Any Container

How to Install:
1. Download the zip file and place it in [your world]/datapacks
2. do /reload and now its installed.

Future Features:
1. Add compatibility to others containers
2. Add Configs like toggle protection system

Feel Free to Donate if you want to ^^

I want to use the player shops datapack but I don't really care about the locked chest datapack. Is there any way to use shops but not the custom lock thing? Like maybe I use a command. What functions could I modify or delete to allow it to work independently?

There is a bug, I got that bug on a server before, but tested it in singleplayer till I got the same result in trying to get my items back on the server. Result: Impossible.
The bug occurs, when the floating chest disappears.
Please use an armor stand instead of an item for the indication of the owner.
The item can be removed with fire, lava, hopper, explosions, pistons, clearlagg plugin, item stacker plugin, and other things, but the armor stand does not.
It also seems like a double chest needs 2 of such books for the floating chest feature to trigger.

if the chest disappears is a visual glitch, u'r still able to get the items if u go to it, btw, ofc clearlagg plugin will kill it '-' that's what it does, same for item stacker.. idk what u mean by pistons, and hoppers u'r right.

Double chests is intended

Btw, this datapack is discontinued, I'm not going to update it, only do another one that's safer and more practical, but only when I get back to datapack develop bcs I'm busy with other things, and as I get no return from it, It's not my priority

Not working on 1.15.1, same with player chest shop.
The old chests with yet a Lock are working, but when I try to create another book/lock... The Fuction remai stucked in "Please, Hit Done Button before signing your book".

Any chance to revert back to the key version as I preferred that look to having a book? It's the main reason I chose this lock datapack to another on this site as I much prefer that aesthetic. I see the patch notes that you changed the way the mod works to allow someone to make copies, is there really no way to do it with those keys instead? The new way also takes up a slot in a chest which I'd prefer not to do if at all possible. Perhaps even a different version for that key would suffice or explaining how I could accomplish that and that'd be great too!

The Item in the Chest is the way I protect it, bcs I did this datapack to use no entities at all

I'm planning to do a new Lockable chest, bcs I'm developing a new Trade-Based Shop Chest, and some features I learned will help to make a better version of it

I see, do you have an ETA on said new chest then or any sort of plans that you're willing to discuss about that new chest like if it will go back to the old keys or not?

I don't have a trigger to use, but for style use the old key, isn't a bad idea.
No ETA bcs I'm recently busy so I'm not with much time to develop, but I'll try next weekend as deadline

Hi Ant, I'm having trouble using your addon.

When I create a book (first page is "#Lock#", second page is "password") and drop it, I do not get a key. I hit done, then shift + right click on the chest and sign it (naming it "#Lock#"). Ive dropped it, put it in the chest on the last slot, nothing happens. I am running the datapack on my vanilla 1.13.2 server. I have tried in both survival and creative. Your pack does show up in /datapacks list, however, so it is installed

My datapack uses 1.14 features, I'm sorry, but Planet Minecraft don't allow me to say that my datapack is to 1.14,

so it's on text saying that I'v created and tested in 19w09a

And about the way ur doing it, its the version 1.0, now no longer needs to drop it, or save it with the Title #Lock# (that's a thing that u were saying)

Sorry, but the video is not updated, I'v to record a new one since the method to make a locked chest changed, now to make it less over powered, u need 2 books, 1 to lock and let inside the chest, and other with u as key.

you can check the tutorial in How to Use
